What scope to buy?

For me, it seems busy and distracting but some people like them.
This one is more comparable and more typical of those others use, although the dot is too small for my eyes:

But, this scope is about a $100 more.

Then I would send it to Leupold for a 3/8 MOA target dot reticle. Chicken George could arrange all of that for you, though, probably for a comparable price or less.

I just fitted a Leupold FX3 30X on my 1712 and it's shooting off the hook!!! Had a 6.5x 20 x 50 and it was awesome also!!!!

There is another place that has great prices on Leupolds. I got a new fx3 25x40mm for $545. Might check there for the others too, they are at least $100 less than anywhere else that I've seen. I was a little leery at first, but it was new in the box, got to me in 3 days (which NOTHING does in MT). So I'd recommend them based on this one experience.

I just shot the best match of my life this weekend with a new to me 15+ year old Leupold. Works as well as the one year old I have. Almost the same price too...

The only way you will ever loose money on a leupold is if you run it over with a truck.... ;)

If you got the Silhouette Sightron for $570 that is an excellent price! Their list is $660. I may have to call them and see if I can get that price.

9 chickens, 9 pigs, 9 turkeys..... 3 rams! My sight setting for the rams with the new glass (changed MOA inserts on rings from the other scope)
are a bit off I think pluss my brain was melting down.... I have shot a 31 and 32 before but those 3-9's actually felt REALLY good. Making the critter bigger makes it easier to keep on them. If the higher power really does continue to make it easier to hold on I might go to a 40....

Wow! That's good shooting. Glad the 30x is getting the results you are looking for! As far as moving up to even more magnification, you'll eventually have to just stick with something or you'll be another Jerry Tureau shooting a 60x scope! Remember that after you've physically figured it out, the really high scores are all mental.

Funny thing is when I got home after the match I had to take a nap.... wore me out. All I want to do is shoot master scores. I don't want to win anything, just shoot to my best. ;) Finding the correct animal to shoot at with that 36X is hard though....

Get that thought out of your head right now! You want to hit every target you shoot at and win every match you enter! Right now you think you "just want to shoot master scores" but when you start shooting master scores you're going to want to continually improve and you're going to want to win. You have to be very careful NEVER to limit yourself in your mind. Your mind is the ONLY thing that can hold you back in shooting. If you physically can hit one target, you can physically hit every target; it's just a matter of your mind making it happen.

Having a goal to start shooting master scores is fine as long as there is a time factor (for example, "My goal is to be regularly shooting master scores by January 1, 2015"), but saying that all you want to do is shoot master scores is not a goal, it is a self imposed mental limiter. If that is how you're thinking, your mind will make that, and only that, happen.

The core of what Dustin says is to concentrate on the one target that you are shooting. Don't think about final scores for the match or limit yourself by thinking that you just want to shoot a master score, because on a day that you are shooting well that can absolutely limit how well you finish up the match. I've had it happen to me more times than I can count. I'll be on fire and shooting very, very well, right until I realized that I was up to a master score and anything else would be way higher than I usually scored. From that point on, the focus changed because I believed that it wasn't like me to shoot a score so high. Now I pretend that I'm in a sudden death shootoff from the first shot of every match. My goal is to only take good shots and not care about final score. One of the ways that I know I kept my focus for the match is if I don't know or even think about what my final score is until after the last shot. It actually makes the matches much more fun for me now that I don't worry about scores, and only think about making one good shot at a time.
