Scores in your class
I was just wondering after a match today. What percentage are all of you shooting scores that fall within your class versus scores below your class. I shot one today in my class and one below my class. Seems like no matter what class, there are scores below their class even really good shooters. The wind was tough today but a real fun match.

At the risk of my coach ripping my bollox off for talking negatively:
SB, Standard gun, AAA always in class.
SB Hunter, Master, only ever shot 3 Master class scores...LOL so 100% out.
Air rifle Sporter, AAA Always in class.
Air rifle Target, Master, 50/50
Air rifle Open AAA always in class.
So i guess that makes me, up to now a AAA shooter, with the occasional venture into Master, but look out I am planning on doing a lot better this year. I also have a couple of legs up in to Master with a couple of guns, so guess that makes me a bit of a sand bagger as well....LOL

Kevin,
There are a number of shooters that I know that no longer compete because they had the few streaks of good conditions and moved up. Normally they do not consistantly shoot in the class they are in, old age, eyesight, and various physical reasons for no longer being able to compete in the calss they are in. The current procedure for dropping down a class is way too cumbersome for many to bother doing as a result they quit coming out. I can think of at least 5 people that I know that way now.
Myself there are times when I do not even come close to making my class, due to limitaions from an old work injury primarily, but the competitive drive keeps me determined to stay out there and push the young whipper snappers and there are times when my back works fine so I have no problems aside from the failing almost middle aged eyesight!!!

thanks for the replies. I have eyesight issues and may in the future switch to left handed shooting, as my right eye is the only one with the issue. Since I started this sport last year I have had constant improvement and just moved up a class this weekend. I am in AA hunter and it seems like I am only hitting my class about 50% even in practice. My high score so far is a 25 last year. I guess I should be happy but I would bet that you big guns out there in master class are never happy with your scores either unless you get a 40.

Kevin,
Even some of the big guns are worried about the edge hits when they get a 40.
Limey,
I do not have choices on the spam filter but I have answered you finally when I did catch an email before the filter did.

Just out of curiosity, how many 40s have been shot in registered competition. Maybe 20?
I assume Tubb has done it.
Sanchez, Bernhardt, Winstead, Lawton, all more than once.
Jerry Tureau.
Tim Kurrick.
Jared Perry.
So, who did I miss?
Oldtimers, is it or is it not true that Bernhardt once shot 40/40/40/38 at a two-day tournament? No urban legends now, somebody who knows.
I hear Clark Williams once missed the first chicken and then ran 39.
A buddy saw Wigger drop a pig on the way to 39 without even saying "Darn."
As easy as it is to hit one of those little things, it's funny how many truly great shooters haven't quite gotten there.

AJJ,
Jerry Tureau has never hit one in a reg. match, one in an approved.
Is Clark Mason supposed to be Clark Williams? If so that was at Jacksonville.
Just trying to help you out.....which way did you come in?

I'm with you, Mary.
Some days the body lets one down, even though the brain is willing !
I'm a AAA shooter. Have been forever, it seems.
Sometimes near the top of the class,
but mostly inconsistent, and down the bottom,....and then there's the bad days.
We don't shoot enough, esp registered matches, which doesn't help.
I've never contemplated going down in class. I just do the best I can on the day.
One day I'll get High Senior, when everyone else has 'retired' !
I saw Frenchman Nicholas Berthelot shoot a 40 at the World Champs in Australia, 2000. (He got a silver medal in Olympic Air Rifle in Seoul 1988)
He beat Cathy in the Smallbore Light rifle to take the Gold,
and she reversed the tables in the Heavy rifle.
cheers,
Sean
