I spent $260 on it and plan on spending absolutely nothing more on it. The features it comes with make it a great entry level or budget minded silhouette rifle. I don't need to change anything except magazines when they are empty. I took it to a match yesterday and a new guy was able to shoot it (12/40) and it worked perfectly.

I know where you are coming from with the Ruger comments, but I think the American is worth every penny. Doesn't need modifications. Just needs a scope, ammo and a shooter that doesn't feel the need to try and turn it into something it's not.

Got my hands on one of these and attached a Sinclair "Accuracy Asset" to forend using front swivel (gives you a 3" wide forend), used the old versoin of a Sinclair rest.

Shot against my 1712, mounted a Leupold 8.5 x 25 on the Ruger. Used some old RWS ammo have lying around. The Ruger at 100 M grouped slightly worse than the Anschutz, had more vertical, but group size was about 1-1/4" center to center.

Now that was one rifle out of who knows how many. maybe I was just lucky, maybe not. The bore needed a really good cleaning, and was able to repeat this group multiple times. Oh and 10 shot group, don't do anything smaller.

If you buy one, may bet lucky like I did and maybe not.... Worse case is buy one and if not happy, sell it, should be able to recoup money.

Used a DIP sightbase, modified and used Leupold MK IV rings.

A young new shooter brought one to our shoot today and it was his first time trying silhoutte, he shot a 17. So it must be ok, he had a 12x scope that he had for hunting. I think this maybe a good rifle for price.... :-??

I am going to go ahead and put in our 2014 Silhouette club budget, 2 Ruger Americans. Thanks all for reporting! Other club disciplines or outings will have access too.
