My wife's 1416 HB with McMillan Stock
Here is the situation...
My wife has acquired my 1416HB with 2 stage trigger. She wants to shoot Silhouette with me and my daughter, but the current setup only qualifies for the Smallbore Silhouette matches. In order to get this rifle to conform to Smallbore Hunter Silhouette the following will need to be changed:
Trigger will need to be modified (Springs) to bring the trigger weight up to 2lbs.
The heavy straight barrel will either need to be turned down so it is tapered or...
Replace the barrel with a Lilja, Shilen or other barrel that is tapered.
I have time to work on this project because my wife is due to give birth in September, and I suspect she will not shoot for at least a few months after... unless shooting them critters helps her accelerate past postpartum quicker...

Just an idea. If the rifle as is will work for Standard, why not start there?
Until she gets to the top of A class there is only one animal difference, 20 vs 21 and the top of AA is two animals, 25 vs 27.

Steve,
That totally is an option. I guess I can wait until she says it's Hunter time. I'm thinking ahead... budget wise.

I'd go the route of encouraging your daughter to shoot that rifle in Standard only just to see if she even likes it enough for you to make changes to the rifle.
I would replace the barrel entirely instead of turning it down and sell the standard barrel as a takeoff barrel for the 1416 if she wanted to take it serious at all.

Mark,
Just but another Anschutz 1712 so Erin has both a standard rifle and a hunter class rifle.
If she comes to like the 1712 better than the 1416 then sell off the 1416.

Right, I have money like you have money to buy a 1712. If I do another 1712, I will build it for her like I did Waverly's. Cheapest route and still less than buying a brand new 1712.DavidABQ wrote:Mark,

Maybe you can just sell the 1416 to fund a hunter class qualifying rifle build.kd5zmg wrote:Right, I have money like you have money to buy a 1712. If I do another 1712, I will build it for her like I did Waverly's. Cheapest route and still less than buying a brand new 1712.DavidABQ wrote:Mark,

I seem to remember you saying you have the original Anschutz stock from "The Captain's" 1712. Just but a barreled action and drop it into The Captain's old stock.

If I end up selling the 1416, then I will pick up a 1712 barreled action. Then again I might end up selling the 455 Silhouette setup to the co-worker that joined us this last match, minus the scope of course, unless he really wants it.
Then I would be able to fund the 1712 build for Erin.

Sell the CZ and then let them try out an Anschutz to get them hooked.
Just do to him what I did with you.

David,
Actually if you would have chickened out in getting the Annie 1712, I would have probably got it before you. So, I already had my heart set on an Annie. Do you remember you said I had formal training and I am the one who supposedly has more trigger time than you.
