Air Arms - Pro Sport

I have a pro sport serial number 52. I have had it since it was new and it is a nice rifle. The firing behavior is very nice, quiet and reasonably powerful. It has much better balance than the TX 200 of which I have had several. i shot the rifle both in silhouette and field target for many many years and just rebuilt it about two years ago. Until then it was never apart. the spring never broke, it just got weak. I still have it and mostly shoot just field target with it. It is as accurate as any springer but you really can't shoot them off a bench so i can't discuss group sizes.

The pro sport does have some weak points that the TX and the HW77 do not .
The little clip that attaches to the cocking arm is a weak point and I replaced mine several times the last being a very well made custom part. The cocking arms also tend to bend. i still am using my original arm but a friend has replaced his bent one with an expensive custom arm. When the gun is cocked it puts a lot of pressure on the stock and as a result my stock is split and I put a furniture bolt thru it and it seems to be fine. The later models have two added screws in the stock to help with this problem. the gun is also hard to cock. The TX and the HW77 are easier.
In case you have not figured it out I think the three top sporter spring air rifles are the pro sport, the TX200, and the HW77/97. The R-9 is also good for a first gun. There isn't much else out there worth wasting your time on.

From what I read on the airgun forum, the TX200 is preferred because it is easier to cock. I have the AA400 SL (PCP) and they make a really nice gun.

Hi guys,

I have both the latest Air Arms Pro Sport and the TX 200 Mk III. Two of the finest spring air rifles that money can buy.
They both came out of Pyramyd Air in the US of A.

I prefer the Pro Sport, (15 ft/lbs) as it's a little lighter, and better balance for me,
as I find the TX a bit weighty, and too much up front.
The TX has a little more power.
They do recoil a bit, but much smoother than 'ordinary' springers,
as they are virtually 'tuned' out the factory.

I love shooting Offhand with the Pro Sport, esp silhouette.
I bridge it on my fingers.
My silhouette scores are comparable with my Falcon PCP.

I'm happy with it's grouping.
I could do better with a bit more effort,

It is a bitch to cock initially,
but you soon get used to it, and into the rhythm of things,
and I'm 65 years young this year, and not in the best of health.

I chrony'd the two as follows;

You can't ask for any better than that.
Difference between the two will most likely be in the barrel lengths.
The PS is shorter than the TX.

Here's some groups (and a couple sighter shots with the TX @ 10) I did at 10, 25 and 50 mtrs, in a bit of a breeze.

Hey Mary, Butch,

I've been quiet for a while,
retired now due to failing health,
and shooting more airgun than anything else,
both Silhouette and Field Target, as well as 3P at paper.

Glad to see you're all well, and still shooting straight.

I love the Pro Sport. The TX is good but I find it a little heavy.
I also have a Weihrauch HW35 which is low powered for it's size, but fun to shoot, and a good trigger on it, as with all HW's .

My Falcon PCP is great but gets a bit boring shooting it.
Shooting springers is more fun.
