Best double rifle case for traveling on airlines?
I was just wanting to get everyone's opinion on whats the best rifle case for traveling on airlines? It would have to be a double rifle case that could of course handle large scoped rifles. So what do you use and what do you think about it?

I cant recommend one case over another, but I can tell you from experience if you use a double rifle case, you should put each rifle in a gun sock or some such item, the rifles get to squabbling inside the case , denting and scratching one another.

The Pelican case I took my rifle up to Ridgeway in worked great. They are pricey though.

Mine is a SKB Sports hard shell plastic four gun model with wheels. I dont ever put in four guns, only two. The case weighs in at 25 lbs. no guns...not light.
Both it and me will be getting a work out in a couple of weeks flying to the AZ HP state match.

I borrowed Joy Cox's SKB case to go to St. Louis last year. Worked great.

Hi Dee, I use the green pelican, easy to see. You also have to be concerned with the overall dimensions, or they will nick you for oversize fees, no fun.

Re: Best double rifle case for traveling on airlines?
I just bought the SKB 3i-5014-6B-L. Haven't used it yet, but I researched cases quite a bit before I bought it. Here's a link to their page showing all the rifle cases: http://www.skbcases.com/sports/product/ ... otgun.html. I bought it for a MUCH lower price from ManVenture Outpost, who also carry a lot of Pelican. They're in two separate places on the site, here are links. New cases including SKB and Pelican and others.
If you get an SKB, make sure it is one that has the Unconditional Lifetime Warranty as well as the $1500 content coverage if your gun is damaged by the airlines. Also, some of their cases are made in China. I made sure to get a 3i series which are all made in the US and are a different grade of plastic. Overall I liked their warranty better than Pelican.
Also, I tried the 2SKB-5114 at Cabelas which has two separate areas for each rifle. My Remington 700 with a target turret Leupold on it WILL NOT FIT. Great concept, and the case may be good for most scoped rifles, but not target turrets.

Hammy, we have been flying gun friendly Southwest for the last couple of years. Bags fly free and no BS about weight or length of cases. At arrival in Phoenix last year a rather big boned gal from TSA met us at the recieving area carrying BOTH mine and Daves aluminum case, one in each hand. That was about 100 lbs.

The Pelicans have wheels, and I break my guns down and use the 36 incher. As a sidebar Baby Huey wants some more info on that big boned gal.

BH=BS on the big boned gal. They are a source for shade here when the temps get to be about 112-114.

I got one with my Precise 9003 Anschutz. It is a shorter model, so the buttplate needs removed. Not a big deal on a match rifle, and it is nice that it is short. I also have a lighter version SKB but I would not trust it for a plane. It is really wide, moderately thin and light. I got the light one at Cabelas. It is a quality light case, but not gorilla proof. The SKB built like a Pelican is gorilla proof.GeoNLR wrote:SKB w wheels gets my vote.
