Underkill or overkill?

Post by pistolero45 »

Okay, here is the situation: I have almost six boxes of Sierra 100 grain spitzers in .243 which are just wasting away. Now I know from experience that the .243 is a little bit light for silhouette work. And I also know from experience that these 100 grain pills are little bit drastic on prairie dogs. So what do you the jury say? Metal animals or little furry animals? :)

Dang Bob - you beat me to it! Would they work on C & P for high power? Save your shoulder for T & R?

Bob - That is the most politically correct answer I have ever seen! Are you one of them thar politicians?

Bear - Maybe a match director would let me use the .243 on the first three animals and then switch to a "real" gun for the rams. The other day I found a spent .300 Ultra Mag. case. Sorta reminded me of a necked down .50 BMG. Maybe something like that for a "real" gun....

I think they call it the .499 Feinstein, or the .495 Politician...

I would ust the 100s for the first 3 and use the 107s on the rams. They would be hell on dogs out a 400+

Jerry, I've got a serious question for you. As a ram load I have been thinking about using Speer 105 gr. bullets simply because this is my deer load and I have a quantity on hand. Any thoughts on this?
