Magnolia Season Opener
Magnolia Rifle and Pistol Club in Jackson, MS. will hold the first Match of 2008 on Saturday, February 9, 2008. Practice starts at 8 A.M. Smallbore Rifle Relay 1 gets the "Ready" command at 9 A.M. We are located near the intersection of Interstate 55 and Interstate 20.
This is the first year that I will be holding Air Rifle Silhouette Matches at Magnolia. Air Rifle will follow Smallbore Hunter Rifle. We are really looking forward to shooting Air Rifle this year. I would like to thank Carol Scioneaux for the fine Air Rifle targets he built for us.
Magnolia Rifle and Pistol Club has been very supportive of our Smallbore/Air Rifle program and actually purchased a CZ452 Silhouette with a Tasco 10X to 40X scope and BKL rings for me to use as a loaner rifle for people who want to try the sport but do not have anything close to the proper equipment. I had a lot of folks shoot for the first time in 2007 but many of them turned up with rifles that would only occasionally function.
If you are passing through Central Mississippi Saturday stop by and shoot with us. My wife and I do our best to run a very organized, safe match and make sure the competitors have fun.

We had a good turnout at this match for Smallbore(including Hunter). Air Rifle did not have as many shooters but everyone had a great time. Our Air Rifle Range is huge compared to most with plenty of room to spread the shooters out and plenty of room for the wind to blow the Target Air Rifle pellets all over the place. It is amazing the magic that the good shooters can do with that 10 meter rifle in the wind. I really like running the Air Rifle Matches. It only takes a few minutes to set up and take down the targets.
We had a proud 10 or 11 year old Smallbore shooter and his Dad show up early with a new CZ American and a borrowed Leupold. They helped us set up the range and then Dad had to go to work. His little brother got sick and the Mom had to take him to the Emergency room. I asked him if he had rather sit around with his mom and brother at the hospital or stay with us and shoot silhouette. I think you know his answer. I squadded him with an experienced older shooter who happened to work in an elementary school and we were off to the races. Dad came back just as he was shooting his last bank in Hunter Rifle. To me that is an example of what Silhouette is all about.
Running matches is not as much trouble as everyone thinks. There comes a time when a person has to give something back to the sport and I had reached that time. The only way Rifle Silhouette will spread is for folks to hold matches and introduce newcomers to this great sport.
