If you're going to drag Evelio into this then I get to use the 504 he (grudgingly) built for me! Hmmm... Or maybe we want to keep this a low budget shoot off? Tuned, as in nothing added or subtracted, but otherwise stock rifles readily had for less than $500?Bob259 wrote:Hmmm... sounds like this may have 'road trip' written all over it. Of course it's Kitty's fault! Not that it bothers him a bit or gets our lives back...Bob259 wrote:And it's all Kitty's fault!!!!! Well at least that's what I tell the wife![]()

Been accused of far worse, usually with some truth to the accusation...Of course it's Kitty's fault! Not that it bothers him a bit or gets our lives back...
Actually, upon inventory of the gun safes I do have 6 guns that fit the "under 500 dollars starter rifle" criteria.......Albeit two belong to the oldest grandaughter.....A Henry single shot (granddaughters) a blinged out 10-22 (grandaughters) a TC Contender with a match barrel, a Marlin 39A, a Henry Golden Boy, and a Remington 541T (borderline meeting the criteria, not readily available and are somewhat a buyers market thing so the price is a little inflated right now) and a CZ trainer (hogback stock) that has been tweaked a little.......or a lot. depending on your viewpoint...Barrel cut and crowned, sights removed, stock refinished and trigger tuned..

Nope - NIB stock. Only tuning allowed. Adjust trigger pull using factory adjustment points, torque action bolts, clean, lube, select ammunition and shoot. Only normal wear and tear. No bedding, trigger kits, or crowning (okay, maybe crowning to factory contour as a repair) and must be readily available under $500. So when I can't find a 504 on Gun Broker for six months under $500, it would become ineligible.
Alternatively, make a list of allowed variances and a competitor is allowed to pick two. So Kitty's 541 with the beautiful bedding job could still compete, but not the 10/22 that's only really a 10/22 at the receiver.
