No elk........yet.

Got back Sunday night after spending a few days chasing critters around. The snow was deep and snowshoes were a must. The closest I got to an animal was around 600 yds. When I finally reached the top of a hill a group of a dozen or so were on the move up another hill. I was out of breath, the wind was blowing, animals at a run. Forget it....no chance of hitting one decently.

Stayed at my sisters house. A flock of wild turkeys calls her yard home eating spilled bird seed from the feeders. Started out as few. They told all their friends.

I will go over and try again in a couple of weeks.........when my knee heals up a bit. I was coming down a steep hill at a good pace on snowshoes. The toe of one caught a branch under the snow and I went down slamming my left knee into a rock, also under the snow. Sara said she could hear me swearing a half a mile away. She called me on the 2 way radio to see what was up. It is swollen and black and blue. But it still seems to work OK. My Model 70 never touched the snow!

Bob - Thanks for the story and photos. It sound like like you are on a grand adventure. Hope your leg recovers so you can take another crack at the elk.

And congrats on saving your rifle! A few years ago I took a bad tumble on an icy slope and actually bent my scope tube, plus put a gash in the rifle stock. I would have rather it been me who was banged up!
