Daves Dancing Turkey
G'day All,
During our monthly CLAS smallbore shoot recently I had the pleasure to witness a certain ramslammer (the ex pom) spin a turkey well more than 360 degrees. As I was spotting at the time I had a good view of the whole job. I was sure it would spin off the stand as usual but sadly no, the bloody thing stood. To give you an idea of how long the spin took, Dave had shot, followed through (now don't be rude) and then lowered the rifle and it was still spinning slowly, awesome.
The ex poms reaction was disgust, but for me I seem to remember laughing. After finishing the bank to Daves credit he loaded a sixth round and hit the offending bird properly. The turkey was facing us and would have been about an inch and a half wide, not a bad shot. After inspecting the turkey it seemed as though the bullet had grazed a blob of paint on an edge. In any case it was the best rimfire turkey "miss-hit" I have seen.
I'd like to remind our US readers that our rimfire lever action targets are 3/8 size, a fair bit smaller than the NRA specified 1/2 size.
Back to the range tomorrow for a bit more practise....
Regards,
Outback Mick

Almost as bad as hitting a pig and having it gracefully flipping in the air only to land back on the stand on it's feet as if it was never hit

G'Day All
Gosh I feel sorry for the ex pom, NO who was I bulls#$ting. Me feel sorry that's just a joke. Dave your spotter makes you or breaks you, didn't he tell you to hit it in the middle? What's wrong with you? Anyway I'm sure Outback Mick is looking forward to escaping to the land of Bulldust and really big Silhouettes (Camels). Even if only to get away from us mongrels. You must ask Dooger Dave about the Turkey he turned in the Challenge one year. Somebody hard set it (me) to fix up another bloke and Dooger rotated onto that bank. They are hard enough @ 385 with a Cowboy gun but when they turn 270 degrees it's got to hurt. In fact many years later he still carries the picture of it standing proud as the background on his phone. I didn't feel sorry for him either.
