newbee with a rifle ?
Ok I think i have the bug to shoot silhouette now that I was at the range when they were having it one night. I surveyed all the guns that were there and fell in love with one of them. There were 52's, 452's, 453's, a couple schutes and one remington model 4 rolling block that had been customized with a new barrel and stock. So naturally I fell in love with the remington. I have always liked single shots. So i purchased a pretty rough model 4 the action is great but the barrel is rough. So basically tell me how to build it. I would say money is no object but i would like to stay in the $500.00 to $600.00 figure. I am not sure if I want to scope it but if I do I have a leupold vx3 6.5 to 20 that i could throw on it. The one I saw was using open target sights and it looked really cool. Thanks in advance

This style rifle wouldn't be my cup of tea, but if its your's, then have at it! 
If one were going to mount open sights, then a buttstock in the Schutzen style would look really cool (IMHO). Your rifle should be capable of being rebarrelled in the same manner as any threaded breech barrel. Check with Green Mtn. Barrels for an octagon barrel.
The trigger/lock time would seem to be a limiting factor, but you would have one of the most interesting rifle on the line.
I don't know how competitive your rifle would be, but there's nothing wrong with having a rifle built just because you want it. (I really hope not, because I do it regularly
)
BTW, I've seen a number of mid to high twenties shot with open sighted rifles. Granted they were versions of the 54.18 and not the Rolling Block.

Be sure to check the NRA rulebook for silhouette. I don't have my rulebook in front of me, but I'm 99% sure that hooked buttplates are not allowed. If it's "just for fun" - then I'd say build it to look any way you want.
If you are building to take full advantage of the rules, then a high cheekpiece, deep forend design will allow you to get into a more advantageous position for offhand shooting.

There are a couple of places around here that shoot 200 yard open sight rinfire single shot silhouette. BSA Martinis are the gun of choice so you would fit right in with a rolling block. I doubt that you could do a new stock and a new barrel for $500-$600, though.
