Re: 6.5x47 108 loads
Jerry, I don't think that shooting the first three targets with one load and the rams with another is too complicated, that is how I learned from the people that knew back in 1978 and I assure you that most people do it the same way today, specially with the lighter calibers we use compared to the 308 we used in the past.

Re: 6.5x47 108 loads
Lone, I am doing that now with my 243. I shoot a 100gr at about 2800fps for 3 targets and I shoot a 107gr at 3000 for the rams. When I get my 6.5 together I plan on shooting 142gr at somewhere around 2700fps for all animals.

We use 108's at the chickens and pigs, 123's for the Turkeys and 139's for the Rams.....

Re: 6.5x47 108 loads
I plan to use 107s on chickens (until I run out of them), 130 Normas (because I have a lot of those and not many 107s left) at the pigs and turkeys, and 139 Scenars on the rams. Last year, I used 107s on CPT and either 130 Normas or 139 Scenars on the rams. I guess it's just not that hard to glance and make sure I have the right box of ammo at the line when I check to make sure that my scope setting is correct for the animal that I'm going to shoot.

Of course I know it's kinda oversimplifying it, but I write "Chickens and Pigs" on my chickens and pigs box, "Turkey" on the turkey box, and "Rams" on my ram box...Even have a red MTM box for the ram loads...I'm sure no one has thought of writing on their boxes

what is the lower end of FPS for the 123 to take down CPT I was thinking of around the 2600 without to much wind drift any ideas our rang is badly wind blown most shoots have a cross wind around 20 to 30 mph.

Re: 6.5x47 108 loads
Guys, you are really trying to complicate your life, In 3 years of shooting the 6.5x47 lapua, I used the 107 or 108 bullets for CPT and never lost one at any of the many ranges I shoot in. Anything over 2600 FPS will take them down everytime, anywhere. For the Rams the 139 or 142 will take them down 99.5% 0f the time. There is nothing out there now except a 338 or a 50 cal. that will garanty you a 100% knock down every single time.
I have been at it since 1974, and tried everything available, even 200 grainers from a 308, and still lost some rams, if you don't believe me, LONE RINGER ( Tony ) has been fighting them as long, as I have, and I think he can agree with me.
Evelio.

I ran the numbers for the 108 and 142 gr loads. The difference in recoil is just a little over 2 lbs. If that savings is worth it, go for it.

Re: 6.5x47 108 loads
Evelio's right some of you guys are making this way to hard. When I was interested in starting highpower I went and watched a match first and was hooked. I watched everybody to see who the best shooter was and which guy won the match and after it was over asked him what loads he used and I have followed that and have never had a problem taking down a ram unless its got muddy feet or the target setter didn't set it where he should have. I posted a couple of times asking what everybody else used for .260 and added that info to the library in my head. 107's with 39 grains of varget for chickens pigs and turkeys and 142's with 43 grains of reloader 19 for rams and like "kitty" does I write CHICKS PIGS TURKS on one and RAMS on the other of my boxes and no confussion. I know thats the fun part of relaoding and I have allready played around with a little less powder in some loads but in my opinion if you want to hit animals and not worry about them goning down do what the guy who is winning matches does, whether hes shooting a 6.5x47 or a .260 or even a .7-08. I tend to listen to guys like Lone Ringer, Evelio, McAlice, Dennis Martinen, Eric Boos, anyone eho has been shooting silhouette since the late 70's early 80's. I'm lucky and get to shoot next to guys like Dennis and Eric, those guys are my mentors of this sport. Since the start I have always tried to put myself next to those guys and watch how they shoot and especially their attitude towrds shooting. It's cool when a two former national and current state champions tell you that they are very impressed with how well you've become since you started. It keeps me going and it makes me want to shoot as good as they do. THANKS TO EVERYONE I SHOOT WITH AND EVERYONE HERE ON THIS BOARD FOR ALL THE HELP, KNOWLEDGE AND SUPPORT.
Sorry for getting off topic a bit.

Re: 6.5x47 108 loads
More than one person has acknowledged how readily senior shooters share experience and encouragement with us mere mortals. Kitty, Mary, Evelio and Ducky have taken turns encouraging and thumping me at the range, while many other very capable shooters have jumped in (pounced?) on SC. It is amazing the education this group just gives away!
