Re: New Here
That [Hunter}class was transformed into the approved factory hunter rifle, no changes to those. Too many complained over the years, so more changes to the hunter rifle rules now allow what we have. The light/hunter rifles have not accomplished the purpose of an introductory, less expensive, rifle classification; it is only another class to shoot in...
I was away from the sport when the hunter rules changed. But I can't understand what people were complaining about on the over the counter guns - with one exception. That would be how to accommodate people with long arms where the length of pull they need is over normal. Or cutting stocks to fit kids. That is it. I saw people compete just fine with everything from $60 pawn shop Marlin through $275 NS-522, to $500 Sako to whatever Anschutz 17xx was out. The failure of the hunter rules to provide the less expensive competitive arena is a mainly a result of the rules surrender by the NRA. I will admit that it may mainly be a national class - southern state thing. If one truly couldn't make a stock gun work for them in Hunter, well, Standard is always there. I was really active in the mid-late 90's and I never heard of a person who said they couldn't find a hunter rifle for them. Nor did the subject ever come up in conversation. I realize that ammo cost and choice can matter in results, but the shooter's skill and nerve still nake most of score differences.
Well, you get my Dr. Strangelove response when certain buttons get pushed. We can certainly have "what if" discussions on rules and have fun with it. Thinking that Standard guns could be outlawed gets steam coming from my ears.
Happy shooting,
Dan

Well, I didn't mean to stir the soup, but it looks like that is what has happened!
When we build the 10/22-B4(Barrel Block Bedded Bullpup) it is clear it won't be used for silhouette!
I still want to give silhouette a try, but I will use something more conventional.

Ray,
This is the time of year this crew gets uptight...too long in the snow and no silly shooting! Except for those of us lucky enough to shoot all year, but even then work sneaks in the way at times.
Don't take the comments personally...just something to get stirred up about.

We can accommodate up to eight shooters per relay, that's two per bank.rbrandes wrote:BlauBear,BlauBear wrote:We shoot on line while standing several feet apart but brass makes the trip anyway, somehow.
So, some silhouette matches have several sets of targets to allow more than one shooter at a time? How many at a time where you compete? The Tallahassee RPC has a match on the first Sunday of the month, but due to anniversary issues I could not attend. I hope to make the one on March 7th and see what it is about.
Right now for rimfire I have an AR22, which won't work because the scope goes up on top of the carry handle and that puts it too far from the barrel. I hesitate to shoot iron sights at steel because these old eyes have enough trouble with bullseye targets.
Then I have this 10/22 I bought while working on the eTrigger. It is a stock guts with a folding stock. I got it that way. The trigger is so easy to change you can do it in two minutes. I plan to try it at the Tallahassee match if they will me. I don't even have to shoot for score, I just want to try it.

Your AR is illegal anyway, at least for Hunter class, because the midline of the bore is above the top of the stock, a rule that I understand was passed to outlaw "chinguns" that could be held in place under your chin and jaw. They were popular before I started shooting silhouette, so I've never seen one. As a sport, we may face pressure to allow the AR as veterans return, take up the shooting sports, and want to use a rifle they're familiar with, and it might be good for the sport to allow AR profile rifles.

Re: New Here
Hi Dan, I don't think Charlie was saying ban the standard class. On the contrary, I think his gist was just shoot any 22lr you have. Most of us don't take it too seriously. Heck, if it was about who wasted the most money on silly crap I could be a contender. I just enjoy it. You still have to stand on your hind legs and knock those darn things over.... BTW, 70 and sunny today....

Ok, so if you are hot brass sensitive, then try to get squadded on the far right!BlauBear wrote: We can accommodate up to eight shooters per relay, that's two per bank.

I never want to inconvenience another shooter, it just gives them an excuse for a poor score.BlauBear wrote:Just remember the immutable laws of payback.
Shoot high power rifle or bulls eye pistol for a few seasons and getting hit with rim fire brass won't even be worth mentioning.
In my early days of high power, I was shooting an M1. The shooter to my right had one of those thin (1/2")foam camping mattresses to use as a shooting mat.
My brass was landing on his mat and melting these little cigar shaped holes right through it.
He complained to the match director and the match director told him to get something that was "fireproof."

Re: New Here
True enough Ray. There's nothing quite like fresh M-14 brass down your collar.
Occasionally I spot for a guy that shoots 10/22, and getting pelted in the face kinda breaks your concentration.

Re: New Here
Bear I have to say I am with you on this one !! I dont like hot brass down my back either sure is no fun in a fox hole or at the Range when you are shooting a very very expensive sharps rifle with presentation wood....It always spoils the day when the AK's AR and so on show up..I usally just pick up and leave before the brass starts flying. I also dont like my other guns dinged up either or leaving the range with burn marks on my body....I dont care what anybody shoots but they need to take other folks and thier equipment into concideration and take steps not to harm people or thier stuff with hot hard hitting flying brass.
