Re: Patriotic!!!
Not to stir up a bunch of crap but, to ad some perspective...
When I first heard the story I could not believe it either. I looked into it and in reading it, they were also wearing American flag bandannas.
Do they have the right to wear bandannas and tee's with the flag on it, yes. I don't know any of these kids so I would ask, do they wear this every day, once a week or only on this particular day? It does seem that on that day they were dress more in protest of Cino-De-Mayo that to be patriotic.
If they dress like that all of the time or even regularly, I am all for it and, stand for them and what they believe in.
Too many people do not really understand the what the American Flag stands for and, at what cost it has had to keep it.
I wish I really knew if these kids really cared about the flag and what it stands for. Are they really patriotic or, are they a few troublemakers that have been bound into patriotic glory?

Re: Patriotic!!!
I guess we will never know their "intent". It does seem to me that we can't wear anything that looks like an American flag here in the USA when someone else wants to celebrate another countries beer drinking day. I guess I never have heard of anyone getting into trouble when they wear a flag of another country while here in the USA. This is the USA and I'll wear a US flag lapel pin any damn day I want to.

Re: Patriotic!!!
While I do understand your point, this is America and even if they were wearing it in protest of Cinco de Mayo... they have that right to do so. Just like pieces of crap have the right to stand outside the funeral of a fallen soldier with signs that say "God Hates Fags". We have the right to free speech and many people have died to protect that right. It is frightfully ironic that people from another country would even have a voice against anyone in America adorning the red, white and blue. Cinco de Mayo is a shit holiday anyway.AZRifle wrote:Not to stir up a bunch of crap but, to ad some perspective...

I say this to the Hispanic kids (or ANY race for that matter), if you want to be in this damn country so bad then pick up a star spangled banner and be damned proud of where you are. Be proud of who you are and where your are from also. Wave that flag too. This is America, it is the "melting pot". Come here (legally), and be proud of who you are. But you come here and then hate on America and her colors... oh hell no. I don't think so.
This is what I mean. Immigrants, legal or not, should be proud to be here.

You can't yell fire in a theater just to stir up the croud. Yes everyone has a right but, my point is being misinterpreted which always adds to the fear of trying to clear things up.
If they dont care anything about what the flag stands for and are only tring to cause fights it is alright?
As I clearly stated, IF they are being patriotic on a regular basis and that is all they had in mind as said before
Before we go telling the world about how wonderful these kids are, what was their intent? That is all I am trying to point out.
If all they had on was their regular attire, I would be angry at the school. Bandannas of any sort are not something I would be happy to see as a principal of a school.
I went to high school with kids that would do crap like that just to start fights. I have seen people punched in the face just because someone wanted to do it. It is enough to make me wonder about the intent and, some people don't care to question it.

Re: Patriotic!!!
A guy that I have worked with for four years now and his wife just got their citizenship a couple weeks ago. It took a lot of time and effort, but he actually cried telling me about the swearing in ceremony (and nearly got tears out of me). That's how proud immigrants should be to be in America. He gets seriously annoyed by any mention of illegal immigrants and thinks we should deport everyone here illegally and secure the borders. I heard him correct someone who called him on being an Indian-American. He was very quick to point out that he's just plain American. As you might be able to guess, I get along with him just fine.Trent wrote:This is what I mean. Immigrants, legal or not, should be proud to be here.

It's not easy passing that test either, and I don't know if I could pass it without taking the class first!

Re: Patriotic!!!
It's funny that you mention that test. I don't think anyone should be allowed to vote without passing that test first. The content on the test is covered in high school American history and government classes, so anyone who goes to high school here has to take the classes anyway. Immigrants can take the class for the test and get their citizenship. No discrimination involved. You learn how the government works and how we got to where we are now and you get to vote. Not worth the trouble? No problem. You don't get to vote, though.

Re: Patriotic!!!
My brothers wife is an immigrant from China. She made a point of passing the test for citizenship before they got married. It does make you study and we are proud of her success with it.
She is proud to be an American and also proud of her heritage. I am glad that she felt as strongly as she did about becoming and American Citizen and, I am not going to fault her for remembering where she came from either.

It is interesting (but not surprising) that everyone is so supportive of legal immigrants that have worked to become Americans. This group just expects everyone to earn their way.

Exactlly right B. Because we all had to earn our way to get a head in this country and it pisses us off to see the people who chose not to become legal get a job and not pay federal income tax, not pay into a broken social secutiry system that I personally may never seen any of the money I paid into over all the years of working, not pay for L & I insurance that I may never need. Have all that taken out of your check and then trying to feed a family amongst all the other bills and taxes hard working AMERICANS pay, then F#!% YES!!!! I expect if you want to live in the GREATEST COUNTRY IN THE G@#DAMMED WORLDBCloninger wrote: This group just expects everyone to earn their way.
I know what you meant by the comment B. Just getting a little steam off my chest. please do not take this as a personal attack.

No offense taken Shakes! Everybody wants, and deserves opportunity, and fair treatment. Honest people may disagree about the definition, but agree on the goals. Weasels will nod and agree while calculating the best con.

Bob, Are you talking about the slippery, slimy, oily weasel type. One 4th of July my ex wife's family and I was sitting on a corner in Prescott, Az watching the parade and it was an election year and I don't know why, but very politician that was in the parade came over and shook my hand, it took a week for my hand to feel like it wasn't stuck in a grease pit!

Yep, The first in the parade was none other than Rick Renzi (if your bored google him up), if I would have done what he did I would be in jail with a couple of guys 6'5 300 lbs and really hungry (read horny), and this guy nothing! Money talks and shit walks!
