25-20 Problems with first shot going low.
Do any of you 25-20 users have ever experienced the first shot out of your rifle going low enough to miss a target? It happened to me a bunch of times at the last CA state match and could not figure out what was going on. It must have been the combination of naked bullets (75 Speer) and powder (Hogdon little gun) I was using but have not done additional experimentation since then so I thought I would ask here to find out if that is a common problem with the 25-20 caliber.

Re: 25-20 Problems with first shot going low.
Tony,
I had the same problem with a Marlin CL 25-20 I had a few years ago. It didn't matter what bullets or powders I used it did it everytime through a cold barrel. I even sent it back to Marlin, and they said there was nothing wrong with it. Needless to say I don't own it anymore.
I since then had another Marlin CL 25-20 which shot fine. I also use 75 gr, Speers and Lil'Gun. I am currently using a 92 Winchester made in 1906 with the same reloads, and they work just fine.
I was at a complete loss when it happened to me, and I shot up about 700 rounds trying to correct it and had no luck. I hope you make out better than I did. I might add that I really like the old Winchester.

Re: 25-20 Problems with first shot going low.
Thank you for the reply Al, I've had the rifle since 2003 is an old Win 92 and never noticed in the past that it shot low when cold but I was using Moly coated bullets and 4198 so I am going back to those loads that do not shoot low when the rifle is cold. I let you know what I find out.
