tang sights on 39a

Post by Hawk-1 »

newbie here. just tried shooting silhouette with a rem. mohawk .22. the sights were very hard for my eyes. I guess I need glasses. Are the tang sights legal to put on a 39a? Have never shot one but pix of them look about the same as what i was using. Any ideas would be appreciated. thanks david

Yes, tang sights are legal and Marbles makes one for the Marlin 39A

Most of the shooters I know use that combination. Merit adjustable aperture will help immensely with "old eyes" complaints. :D

Marbles actually makes 2 tang sights for the 39A, one for older models & one for the newer ones; so you need to be sure you're ordering the right one. I put one on my 1946 39A, using the factory d&t holes (these aren't on the later rifles.) When it came in I installed it, & found the rifle was shooting over a foot high at 25 yards with the sight on it's lowest setting. To make a long story short, the upright was too long. I sent it to Marbles and they installed a new, shorter, upright at no charge. Works great now!

If you know when your 39A was made, you can call Marbles & they'll give you the correct part no.
