Don't use energy. Use momentum. Energy doesn't knock targets down. You can make a tiny bullet go 4000fps and it won't even make the target wiggle when a bigger, slower bullet will knock if off the stand. All the tiny, fast bullet will do is damage the target.

Very true. Thats the reason in HP nothing under 6mm is allowed. Jud, if you notice Dick B.s 7-30 waters will leave a small pucker on most of the chickens at pemi and he shoots lead. A bullet traveling fast enough will pass right through a steel target and not even knock it down. It would be like the old argument of .45 vs 9mm. which is better?

Guys, Thanks for all the info. It's given me a good selection especially for the 30-30 gun. I'm currently using factor loads 38 spl on chickens/pigs and 357 on turkeys/rams both Magtech blueline. It looks like with the info I'm getting so far from everyone is that their just using the 357 for all animals, right? I would appriciate some more data just on the 357 loads, Thanks.

for 357 I use a 125gr HP with 7.1 gr of unique. been using it for a few years now with good results.

Between the Winchester Power Point & Remington Core-Lokt (30-30, 150 gr) Which has been the most accurate ?? I'm using the Speer Hot Core 150 for the rams but want a cheaper bullet for practice.

I bought about 500 of the winchesters some time ago and had good luck with them. For the money you can't go wrong. They shoot just as straight as anything else I've used.

Those bulk bullets are not inexpensive any more, I just checked Midway and Graf and Sons. Hornady and Sierra are cheaper than Remington or Winchester. I would get any of those two or Speer before buying Rem and Win at today's prices. When I started shooting Lever Action I used a bunch of Winchester and Remington bullets but now a days I use mostly Speer and Hornady since Lapua does not offer flat or round bullets in the calibers I shoot.

The way things have been going on prices and availability your lucky to find anything at all. I pick up what ever I can lay my hands on these days.

You are welcome xpilot, if you really want to save shoot lead cast bullets. The fellows from Down Under that came to Raton did quite well with them. I am supposed to get some molds from Ex-pom this year.
You can buy cast bullets for less than half the price of jacketed ones if you do not want to get into casting. I bought several thousand 30 cal 150gr Berrys bullets when I found out how well they shot in my rifles the problem is that they are not heavy or hard enough to use at the ram line but they work great for the first three distances. I was buying them for $7 per hundred and now they are almost $15. There are other cast bullets that you can get for less than $10 if you look for them. Maybe somebody here can advice you where to get them.
I got my Berrys from Graf and Sons a few years back and they still carry them, they are cooper plated and I moly coated them. Do not mix jacketed and soft lead or cast bullets because the accuracy goes to hell.

We've shot 125 grain Sierras out of our 30-30 all summer and when hit, we haven't lost a ram. Our new load is a 150 grn cast at 1400 fps and seems to be a great load , taking down everything we hit.

For C-T I use 125gr Sierra FN over 32gr H335
Rams get blasted with 170gr Remington RN over 30gr H335.

H335 meters like water and both loads shoot sub 1.5" at 100yds in 22"bbl Winchester 64A using peep sights.
