Re: Sako A7
Don't know much about the A7, have seen quite a few Tikka T3's around, mostly in .260..The seem to really perform well out of the box and stand up to a lot of shooting...Hard to say exactly what defines "dollar value" and where the right price point is, lots of factors go into each individual decision.....Thoughs on the .243....granddaughter shot her first highpower match with one...was in Zwolle La a couple years ago...no problem with chickens, pigs, or turkey...rang quite a few rams, which took a lot of the fun out of it for her..."Hittin it but not gitten it" has a way of taking the shine off the day for some....Just my thoughts, worth exactly what you paid for them....Best wishes on a great decision that will make your holidays a memorable one.

Bob,
Reading the post I realized I had typed .260 and meant 6.5X55...Was making some notes on the two rounds and senility kicked in....makes you wonder about the validity of the notes, huh??

Our first clue you were losing it was the empty gas tank ;)jneihouse wrote:Bob,

Not wet, only cold.....Bubba is our lab that sleeps at the foot of our bed...Mrs. Kitty always gets up with the grandkids to get them off from school and lets Bubba out to answer mother natures call...Then let's him back in.....Other morning, all is well, Bubba goes and comes back...I get up and go to the kitchen and find Mrs. Kitty fretting about where Bubba might have gotten off to, he must have gotten out of the yard and is gone forever......Someone didn't remember letting him back in....Won't say who it was....but she helps me keep an eye on the gas gauge....

Re: Sako A7
I just bought a Tikka T3 in 6.5 x 55 SS Synthetic in July 2010 from Bud's Guns for $524 included S/H . Had to pay $35 FFL on my end.
Total price $559.00
I checked Bud's and they are out of stock. So your Cabela's deal sounds like a all right buy.

Re: Sako A7
could order a t3 from cabelas and still use the 100?
a 243 for fun no is a great idea but if you really like the HP game then you will buy more power anyways.

Re: Sako A7
Yes I could get the T3 with the 100 off coupon. They send the coupons on a regular basis, so there is no rush. The A7 in 243 was on sale, and with the coupon, 500 looked like a deal. Local(ish) dealer has a synthetic hunter 85 in 260, but it is 1050. So the A7 is half, but I guess have off something not useful is a waste of money. I sold some guns, so I can afford the real deal. Being the dead of winter, I have time to think over some options. I was also looking at the Remington, so I have many options. It is nice to know that the Sako is a viable option.

Re: Sako A7
a GEAT option in fact, nothing wrong with that choice at all, just the twist would require lighter bullets(shorter) you can always get it at a great deal, shoot it til the ringing gets your blood hot, the rebarrel with a slower twist, OR since you are rebarreling anyways step it up to something else in that case faimly like a 260.
if you like the rifle and like the deal.....do it do it do it do it.......we all make upgrades when the time is right, a sako is a nice platform to do it on.
and it is always nice to see someone with some thing different on the line.
did you pick up the subliminal suggestion?
cheers

Re: Sako A7
If you've handled a Tikka, you know it's beautifully made, even at the $550 price point, and I would expect the Sako is a Tikka. I've become an advocate of the 6.5x55 because it is 6.5mm, brass is readily available from several suppliers, the brass costs less than for a 6.5x47 or Remington .260, and there are even several folks selling loaded rounds. On the T3, I'd wish for a varmint weight barrel and a tighter chamber, but for a production rifle it's a tremendous value.
