CRC Lever Gun Match

Eight shooters showed up today for the first lever gun silhouette match to be held at the Colorado Rifle Club. We had nice conditions in the morning for centerfire rifle. Temps reached 52 by noon. Things changed for afternoon rimfire, though. It cooled off quick and got breezy due to an approaching storm due in Sunday. We will be in the single digits by Monday with snow. High scores with centerfire rifle were a 31,two 29's and a 28 for me. I went into rams with a 9-9-7 and totally blew it. Only got three. I couldn't get the sights set right and kept going over the top a little. Top rimfire scores were 33, 30 and three 29's. I borrowed Jims 39A complete with a ........fiber optic front sight. It looked real sharp and defined in the afternoon cloudy conditions. I can see why older eyes appreciate these sights. I hope you guys can resolve this BS with the NRA.

I mainly went out to give Jim a set of range keys and a hand setting up the range. I had not fired my 336 in quite some time but sure had fun with it today. It wont be the last time either. This lever gun silhouette game is FUN.

McAlice, the lever gun game is fun, in all calibers...and yes some of us almost midlle aged people need the contrast on the sights to see them, especially in Raton where at certain times of day the seperation of the targets from the bank is not visible.

Raton's conditions are about the worst I have seen while shooting with iron sights. Would be nice if they had better contrast between the targets and the back stops but they refuse to do the most elementary work for getting the range ready for the nationals like grooming the berms which my local handgun silhouette range do every month the week before their monthly matches. At Raton we start shooting at 8:00 AM when we shoot SB and PC at that hour the shadows from the holes behind the targets blend so good with the targets that the match becomes a guessing game and not a shooting match.
