jacketed bullets for silouette?
G'day
i'm just gettin started in cowboy metallic silouette and i'm under the impression that i'm not allowed to jacketed bullets for this shoot?.. i know the rules say that loads must not damage targets but i often see people on this forum and others suggesting loads with jacketed projectiles for silouette. should i just play it safe and stick to cast or are my regular hunting loads likely to be fine and not punch through the targets i dont want to find out the hard way and have to pay for repairs on damaged targets

Re: jacketed bullets for silouette?
I use lead bullets on both pistol caliber and rifle caliber. Although looking at the 2010 nra nationals in pistol caliber 82 competitors used jacketed bullets and 51 used lead bullets. In rifle caliber 79 used jacketed bullets and 57 used lead bullets. I would say jacketed bullets are more likely to damage targets then lead but you can reduce loads on pigs and chickens

G'Day Hunta270
Most of us here in Aus are using cast. I use them simply due to cost and availability. The shops here in Tas don't stock bullets for the rifles I use. I see on your other post you are using Hawksbury's and they are well priced and do the job.
I hope you can make the CLAS Nationals at Eagle Park(VIC). They start with practice on the 27th April and finish on the 1st May. Come along and enjoy.
