Best sight for Rossi Rio Grande/Marlin 336
g'day
i've gone and bought myself a new Rossi Rio Grande stainless in .30-30 for silouette and hunting. the factory sights are very crude as is and even after i filed down the front sight i still struggled to align them properly. can anyone please suggest a front and rear sight that is legal for sillouete and target shooting but doesnt require any gunsmithing.. the receiver is pre drilled for scope mounts if thats any help approximate costs would be great too if possible. sights that fit the marlin 336 will fit this rifle as it is practically a copy
thanks hunta270

Re: Best sight for Rossi Rio Grande/Marlin 336
It's a personal choice, and my Marlins are mostly used on the target range so judge the opinion considering. Only Marlin I hunt with is a 1954 39A Ivory bead front Lyman 1A rear. It's a good solution for low light not the best for Silhouette targets
I like Lyman 66's rear installed in the factory holes. Although I have friends that use Wiliams and like them too, just best for me to only use one kind of sight for match shooting. I have run the Lymans up and down with a dial indicator, they run true giving movement per click just like it's supposed to. Best remove the stop screw, it won't stop the sight just makes the arm bend as it comes down.
Post is required for NRA Rules Silhouette. Perhaps not the best for Hunting. Front on the rifles with ramps I am real pleased with Skinners post. I replace the factory bead with the Skinner cut it down on the grinder to just fit inside the factory hood. This protects the sight while cased and transported and must be removed to shoot the rifle. However high like it is gives a good sight picture. You could run it lower to center the hood. The Skinner needs to be hand fitted to the ramp. it's not hard to do. On rifles with a dovetail on the barrel Lyman 17A is good too, you can switch out the inserts with the 17A which can be usefull at times but not essential. Most 17A's will drive right into the dovetail with no fitting.
Finish it off with a adjustable disk like Merrits. Ablity to open and close the arpeture is important to me.
