They use to be on the first saturday of the month. I don't know what they might be now after all the "stuff" that went on up there.

Unless something has changed (I missed last year :(( ), Dan Brown holds the NC State match down in Rutherfordton.

My answer surely won't help you answere your underlying question, but . . .

Dan Brown runs a fine program at Piedmont Gun Club in Rutherfordton, NC. He will have the NC State Matches again this year. He held them in October last year and there was just too little attendance for such a fine program (it competed with other, nearby state matches and hunting, etc.). He said this year he would have it much earlier in the year, but I don't remember the specific date(s). I'll email Dan and see if we can get the dates posted.

Also, you referenced "Asheville." We are indeed having Monthly SB Silhouette matches, beginning again in April on the 1st Saturday of each month! Please tell everyone to come out and have some fun with us up in the mountains. We start sighting in at 9:00 and begin shooting at 10:00. We shoot Smallbore Rifle first, then after a lunch break, shoot Hunter Rifle. Costs are $5.00 per match for Club Members, Seniors and Juniors and $7.50 for non-members. We can handle 20 people per flight and ready to see how many people we can get, to show the club the interest in the sport. The club has been very supportive getting this started again and I want to relly make it a hit!

I will be taking notes on how many people would be willing to participate in SB Cowboy for next year. If there is enough and I can get some help, we could begin running matches in 2012. Seems like a long way off, but it will be here before you know it!

Just got back from this month's match at Piedmont Gun Club, near Rutherfordton, NC.

Dan Brown says that he is putting on the NC State Match on May 21-22.

Hope to see lots of people there this year!!

CZ look into Raliegh Durham or Greenville Spartenburg with Southwest....for cheaper flights.

Thanks for the info. Because a flight to Ashville was more than one to Pittsburg, go figure.

CZ - Mary is right! Asheville is small with little local competition, so prices are high. Here's the nearest large airports in order of closeness:

Greenville-Spartanburg, SC (GSP) - 1 Hr away
Charlotte Douglass, NC (CLT) - 2 Hr away
Atlanta Hartsfield, GA (ATL) - 3 Hr away

Don't know which way you'd really be coming from, so take your pick. Good Luck - Hope to see you "here" sometime, whether it be in Asheville (1st Sat of month) or at Piedmont Gun Club (3rd Sat of month)

I may be interested in attending the NC State match on May 21, 22 in Rutherfordton NC that I see posted on here.

Could someone post the registration information and directions to the range. I will be coming from Murphy, NC.

Also if there are any local hotels that you could suggest where other shooters may be staying, that would be great.

Thanks for your assistance.

Lefty,
Dan has included a different email address on the NC State Champ application.

dbrown4895 <at> carolina.rr.com

General Directions -
If you input "1700 Maple Creek Road, Rutherfordton, NC" as your final destination (in Google Maps), you will be awfully close to the range. From that position you would need to go West (left on the map) about 1000 yds - just across a small stream/bridge and you are at the range. But use that general endpoint and pick your roads there.

Info on the State Match (highlights, not official publication)
May 21 - Smallbore Rifle - 2-40 shot matches
May 22 - Hunter Rifle - 2-40 shot matches
$70 for both days or $40 for 1 day
Practice Friday 12:00pm - 5:00pm
Practice on Match Days 8:00am - 8:45am
Matches begin PROMPTLY at 9:00am
<Typical other details>

Motels w/in 8-10 mile radius:
Comfort Inn 828-248-3400 Super 8 828-286-3681
Jameson Inn 800-526-3766 Holiday Inn Express 828-755-2000
Ramada Inn 828-248-1711

Hope this helps and hope to see you there!
