Savage fv

Post by Steelbuster9 »

I just recently purchased a savage fv for about $200 new. Its been a bit since I've shot at the local match because I got married, purchased a house, and have been spending a ton of time remodeling. Anyway is this an ok gun to start back with. I was using a cz 452 American but she left me! I really have no interest in shooting hunter class. Is the accuracy there if I am? Please give me any info you have on this rifle or experience. Thanks

I think you'll find the Savage plenty accurate enough. You may struggle with the scope a little, but it is by no means unusable. After all, this game is all about having fun!!

Clarify..She left you, meaning the CZ 452 American or the wife....CZ 452's are easily replaced, wives are replacable, but he cost can be enormous :D

Ha ha. Ya sorry about that. My cz left me. I had a trainer and an American and had to trade them and a 10/22 I built to put towards the rings and wedding. Wouldn't take it back but ive missed the fun and the guys at the match, they are all really great people. So I'm starting from scratch. And without a single mans budget!

The FV has a varmet type barrel. Am I correct that it cannot be used in the hunting category?

Yes, that is correct. Since the barrel does not taper it does not qualify for the hunting rifle category.

Can a savage compete with the top end guns? If so, what is the purpose of buying a $3000 22lr? What I'm asking is if a $200 gun can print a 1 hole at 40 meters and just over .8 at 100, wouldn't $2800 worth of ammo make you a better shot rather than a high $ gun?!?! Just curious

In this game it's 95% mental and physical ability and 5% or less equipment. Everyone, or at least quite a few people, seem to think you can buy your way into good scores or you have to have a custom rifle to compete, you can't and any one of the top shooters will still win with a $200 rifle and maybe only be down 1 or 2 animals.

Keys to success are Practice, Practice and more Practice. Personally I like the feel of a good rifle and am fortunate enough to have been able, after all these years, to afford a 'custom' rifle. But it doesn't make me shoot any better; in fact my rifle has been advertising for a new shooter because it's so embarrassed.

Shoot what you are comfortable with and ammo that groups with your rifle and if you Practice, Ptractice, Practice you will do well. :-bd

Thank you for the very honest answer Bob. I got alot of shooting to do. I was kinda afraid I would get bashed for posting that. I just really wanted to know. I own a nighthawk grp and a kimber stainless raptor and I can hit 1/2 scal ram at 100yds 5 outa 5 with both. One feels better but not $1800 better. I was just wondering if it was the same way here. Thanks man.
