silhouette steel swinger target
Have any of you tried the 1/5 scale silhouette swinger targets from Quality Targets at this link? http://www.qualitytargets.com/servlet/t ... ets/Detail
I was thinking that this type of target might be a bit easier to set up at a farm property or a range for a portable/temporary set up. I do not have a dedicated permanent range. I think the targets like Winnsboro has would be great but then stands for them to sit on would have to be built and it would be a more permanent set up. The targets above are made of 1/4" steel which seems to be the standard.
Let me know your thoughts and if there is a more preferred product feel free to recommend. The above target seems to be a decent short term approach but not sure about longer term. Resettable targets caught my interest at first but since they are larger and a more permanent set up I thought the portable swinging set up might work a bit better?
Thank You!

Re: silhouette steel swinger target
A man at my shooting club makes them like this for $75. They are the same size we shoot at our matches. My husband fashioned a stand out of 1x4s and drilled holes to fit each width so they stand without having to push them in the ground.
If I knew how, I would post a photo of them here along with the stand.

Thank you for the alternate source in Ray Schaffer.
I notice the way the base is made that Ray's target might be easier to push into hard ground? It has a place for you to put your foot on, to help drive it into the ground. The target is also made of cast metal which may or may not be as durable?

Ray's cast targets are the very same ones used at many ranges for the smallbore matches and they have a lifetime waranty with std velocity ammo use.silvermesa wrote:Thank you for the alternate source in Ray Schaffer.

Anything you are going to shoot at 40m needs to be thicker than 1/4" I would get a 1/2" thick chicken, 3/8" may do. 1/4" chickens end up bending in the shape of a spoon.

Stands can be easy. Try a couple of those big plastic buckets with a 2by4 on top of them!

My husband made the stand in no time flat. He put holes in it for the targets as well as rebar reinforcements should they be necessary.
I haven't used them yet and I'm itching to do so.

Champion makes a set 1/5 scale swingers. 4 swingers but only one base. Can be pushed into the ground. The base is crap anyways. Otherwise the swingers are well made. I paid $42 and got free shipping at Optics Planet.

They make sets as well as single spinners.
