To crimp or not to crimp
I'm new to HP Silhouette shooting a Tikka T3 in 6.5x55. I've got different opinons on whether to crimp or not. I'm using Lapua brass and Sierra match HPBT bullets. Any suggestions or opinons would be appreciated.

Re: To crimp or not to crimp
I don't crimp any of my Hi-Power cases...unless the are fired in a semi auto and the bullet has a canalure. As for dies I use the redding type S with the bushing that is sized .003 smaller the brass will spring back about a .001 or so and give a nice grip on the bullet. If you dont use a type S die then a regular neck sizeing die will do nicely. The size for the bushing is arrived at by measuring the thickness of the brass then multiply by 2 once you have that add the bullet diamiter then subtract .003 or .002 there you have it.

Malinois, Thanks for the info. I aked the question becuse I read an article about controlling the pressure more accurately if you crimp. No the bulletts I'm using now don't have a canalure. I'll look into controlling my neck sizing to get a consistant fit between my bullett and case.
Thanks, ppkny

Pete, as we have discussed taper crimp your 30-30 with the die you have as that is tube feed, the 6.5 should fine and if you need to go to the Redding Type S dies and adjust as Malinois has described.ppkny wrote:Malinois, Thanks for the info. Re: To crimp or not to crimp
I factory crimp everything that goes into my tube fed rifles.
I found that neck tension is more than adequate for the bolt guns...
