I am totally new to this sport. Actually, I have never watched a match outside of TV or on line. So, I have a few friends that are willing to get together and buy some rimfire targets and see what happens. Maybe we will start a fad here in the coastal Carolinas as a great, inexpensive way to have a great time.

I am currently looking to purchase my first rifle for this purpose. While I know Anschutz is the big dog on the porch, I do wish to limit my expenditures, at least until I know if this sport is for me. So, I am looking at the CZ 452 models. I prefer a wood stock because of the weight and looks. I have found a used CZ 452 2E for sale that seems to be pretty reasonable at under $300. What I don't know is what the difference in a regular CZ 452 versus the 452 2E version? Is there any difference one way or another that would make a difference?

I am not sure the difference in the two different models. But I do know that you will not be let down from the CZ for A good starter gun. One piece of advice is buy A good quality scope and ammunition. CZ also makes A silhouette model that has A better stock on it for shooting off hand and they are under $500. Welcome to the addiction.

Steve, you don't say what part of Coastal Carolinas you are in, but Brunswick Ga has a great club and range, then mid state Columbia has some great ranges, now if you get up around Pawleys/Myrtle and into the NC coast I'm a little lost on ranges in that area. Maybe some of the NC guys can chime in.
As for a CZ 452 2E it will do fine, go with it, worth the money. You don't indicate which stock configuration but either way it is a good action and will serve the purpose and probably the best value for the money. Everybody I know with 452's hang on to them as loaner rifles when they move up anyway.

I am in Little River, SC, about 150 meters from the NC state line, about an hour south of Wilmington, NC and 20 minutes north of Myrtle Beach, SC. As far as I know, other than a couple of Ranges dedicated to shotgun sports, there is only one outdoor range that is within a reasonable drive (no more than an hour each way). I am a member of that range, but they have no Silhouette shooters. I and a couple of friends will try to at least start shooting as a casual means of recreation....... Hopefully it will catch on.

The CZ 452 2E that I am looking to purchase has a walnut stock, what I would call an American style stock, no Monte Carlo lump on the left side, which is good, because I am a left handed rifle shooter. It also has sling swivel studs. Pretty nice looking wood, at least in the photos. No iron sights, checkered wood, longer tapered barrel, grooved receiver. Brand new in the box.

If I can get it for under $300 I feel it would make a very nice base for a beginner like me. I will (of course) add an appropriate scope, couple extra magazines, get a reasonbly good spotting scope and some targets......... Hopefully I will be able to stay under my get started budget of $1,000. I do have a couple of pretty decent sets of Binoculars that go to twelve power.... not sure if that will be good enough or not.

Being as I am ou there in this area alone, trying to get started, I will depend a great deal on this and other web sites dedicated to the sport. While I am new to this genre, I have experience in Sporting Clays, Trap, Skeet, Five Stand, Steel Shooting, USPSA events and am a life time shooter and gun enthusiast. In order to get started, I will most likely be selling off some of my safe queens (of which I have too many) This should give me the capital I need.

If it's a CZ 452 (with an E on it or not) with an "American" style wood stock and no sights, it's almost surely a CZ 452 American.

The ones in bold have Monte Carlo style stock, which would be a problem for a lefty. The Varmint may be to heavy, and I don't know if it has a tapered barrel or not, but you need a tapered barrel For Hunter class.

Prices are running from $360-$420 so if you can get an American around $300 or even under $350 you wont be hurt. PM sent.

CZ Varmints will work fine for Hunter class - there is taper to the barrel and they just do make weight with a scope. Great rifles.

Personally if I was to start from the beginning again, I'd probably go with the varmit model over the silhouette model, but the deal I received on the silhouette was just to good to pass up. Purchased loacally for under $300, bargain on southfla terms!

Check with your local dealer and see what they can do for you as far as price, they can get you one from Zanders. Or see what they will charge to do a transfer from another dealer like Buds or from an individual. Many on this forum individuals or FFL holders my have an American or two.

They don't have as many 452's as they use to but they still have a decent amount. Buyer beware on the 455, still pretty new in production and have had some problems.
