Now go on eBay and order a yodave kit, it'll get all the creep(if any) out and will get your trigger down to two lbs! It's only I think $13!!! Best upgrade for the gun in my opinion!

The yodave kit is worth the cost for sure. It's not nearly as good as the Timney or Rifle Basix replacement triggers, but it's also not nearly as expensive. I've installed several of each. I currently have a Rifle Basix trigger to install on my daughter's CZ 452 Scout.

Definently agree with ya Jason, the Timney is better, but for the money ya can't beat the yodave, also it's is a bit easier to install. I had the yodave is my CZ for a solid 6-8months before I found a deal on a used Timney for $40!!!

Well, one gun shattered. Should have known that a great deal was too good to be true. The CZ452 that I was attempting to buy is conveintly out of stock, but for a few dollars more............... yadda yadda. Crap. Guess I need to post in the Marketplace to see if anyone has something available for me.

Also, are thre any other suggestions of a good starter? CZ makes other models, some with shorter barrels. Should these be considered? Any other quality bolt action rifles that should be on my list that are in the 300 to 500 range? There is a gun show and auction coming up in my area so I would like some ideas of what to keep my eyes out for. Thanks.

Steve, the CZ452 is tought to beat for the money. Izhmash Biathlon makes a great straight pull action, but their stock configuration is too deep for silhouette rules, this rifle if you can find one, is remarkably accurate.
Remington 541 if you can find one used should be on the high end of your price range, stay clear of the 581's. There are some Remington 40X CMP rifles floating around, but most that have them want way over what they paid for them from the CMP last year. Occasionally at the shows you can find some beat up Winchester 52's, stocks/barrels are replaceable, and they are also great actions. Anschutz has some lower end models that are less money but also less adjustment in trigger and other parts, would stay clear unless you can get a great deal on one.

The CZ453 has a set trigger that disqualifies it from Silhouette. I have read here before that some match directors will allow them if the trigger is adjusted, but it costs about the same to get a Timney trigger and a 452. CZ does make a high value rifle that is very, very hard to beat.

If the trigger on a CZ 453 is adjusted so that it cannot function as a set trigger and the single stage pull is at least 2lbs, it's not up to the match director if the match is NRA-approved or registered. It's a perfectly viable alternative to the CZ 452 with Timney or Rifle Basix trigger, and better than a CZ 452 with a Yodave kit. It still requires adjustment to achieve the goal, but it's less trouble than installing any of the CZ 452 trigger options. I'd probably go with a CZ 452 and Rifle Basix trigger instead of a 453, but I've installed a few of each of replacement triggers now.

Hi Steve, just a few quick word's; I was in the same boat a few month's ago, got a LH CZ 452 Am. from Tin Star in OK.
Found them on Gunbroker.com, I have a FFL but could not find one wholesale, their price was only 15$ more.
Put a Big Sky Sil. on it, $75 rebate on now, got it from Graf & son, hurt me to pay more for the scope then the rifle, but the folks on this board are right, it was a wise move.
I'm in Beaufort, 90miles up the coast from you. Buckeneer club in Wilmington shoots pistol and a club type SB sil. match I beleive.
There are matchs in Roxboro and Durham. Then Ashville and Pedmount. I have not shot any registered SB matchs yet but plan on it in MS. and TX. this winter. I did get a set of 1/5 and half size [ for lever gun] to practice with, a great guy from IL. that sell's on E-bay gave me a good deal BYE, John
