Re-vamped Rem 700
This started out as a Rem 700 ADL in .243 orignally bought in the 70's. In 1984, I wanted to try HP silhouette so I had a Hart SS heavy barrel added and re-chambered it to 7-08. Right after it was completed my job relocated me and I didn't shoot the rifle until several months ago.
Decided to have Evelio add a new stock and lighten the barrel as it would not make hunter class. Wanted a Robertson composite stock but they went away. Evelio had a take off McMillan silhouette stock in camo and offered it to me. Man, I'm glad I took it! It fits me great and is so comfortable.
Evelio fluted the barrel, installed a lighter firing pin assembly, trigger guard, lightened the factory trigger, lapped the bolt and we had the stock hydro dipped with a snakeskin pattern over a metallic blue finish. Evelio, thanks for suggesting the snakeskin!
Now searching for the right loads. Although there is a HP silhouette range at my OKC Gun Club there are no sanctioned matches anymore. Will have to go to AR, TX, MO or ? Have to go to Tulsa to shoot SB silhouette.
Evelio is great to work with as all of you know. I bought my 1712 in a RT/S stock from Soberbiker who had Evelio build it for him. NICE!
BTW, that's a Weaver T-24 on it with Talley rings. It's a 2-3 oz from 9lbs total weight.
Hope everyone likes to see new rifles on this forum as much as I do.

Nice looking rig, does the snakeskin add a texture to the stock or is it smooth?

Re: Re-vamped Rem 700
Haven't made it to the benchrest range yet, Evelio. High winds and was out of town last weekend have kept me from it.
May try this weekend although there will be a 9mph wind straight out of the south. As I will be shooting to the north and therefore with the wind, can I assume this shouldn't affect accuracy too much?

Bob, try to set up a couple of flags or ribbons in a stick, try to shoot when they are pointing in the same direction, don't worry about the point of impact, just shoot for group accuracy, you can set your dead on zero, once you have develop a good load.

RE-7mm08 loads...
I have a Tikka hunter rifle and a Remmington Standard rifle, both 7mm08. I only use one load for everything, 168 grain sierra match king w/39.0 grains varget. It works very well with both rifles.
Beautiful rifle!

Evelio - best 5-shot group was shot with the 120gr Sierras just touching the lands - slightly over 3" at 300 yards. Used 38 gr of Varget. Shot the same load with 130 SMK's seated at the lands and it was also a little over MOA. Will try to duplicate this next time and then will tinker with the powder charge. Having a blast!

The answer to where to shoot is easy. Start running matches at OKC again. I think they even shot rimfire just to the left of the HP range.
