Does anyone have an "in" with the Cooper people in Montana?
My brother bought The Jackson Cooper Squirrel Rifle and it stopped shooting accurately after only under 100 rounds. Upon inspection with a magnet, he found slivers of metal in it. He sent it back to Cooper in Montana and they've had it for about 3 weeks. They admit it won't shoot a decent group but presently it's sitting there awaiting "something". My brother calls about every 4-5 days to check on their "progress" with it; they have lots of encouraging words for him but still have his rifle and it still won't shoot a good group. Gosh, you would think a gun company producing quality rifles would want to service customers better than this... and since it was brand new, why not offer him a new rifle?
Do guns come from the factory with filings still in them? I didn't clean my Annie right after I purchased it (new) and it shot great from the git-go.
At any rate, if anyone has had good luck with service from Cooper and knows how to receive it, I would love to pass it on to my brother. He'd like to have his rifle back shooting as it should.

P.S. In the meantime, my brother bought an Anschutz... (what he should have bought in the first place IMHO). However, Cooper Montana still has his rifle.

They probably are waiting on a new barrel to be made, fitted....and re-tested. Firearm exchanges do not usally happen because of the serial number thing that would be my guess.

Chere, I do not have an in with the Cooper people in Montana but I want to offer a little bit of advice for the next time you or your brother buy a new rifle.
I would never buy a new rifle without first inspecting the barrel for imperfections and if I buy a rifle I clean the barrel and lubricate the bolt before using it.

Thanks... guess I was lucky then. I just took mine out of the store and started shooting it (at the range, of course

)
My brother said the Cooper shot good at first, then it jammed and after he got it un-jammed, it wouldn't shoot right after.

That makes sense (the serial number).
Wouldn't you think they'd have a stash of barrels around?... but what do I know ?

Very few of the custom makers make thier own barrels anymore...If that is what is at issue with your rifle, my guess is that it is a barrel issue and they are waiting to get another. It would be great if they had a stash they could pull from but cost being what they are these days I dont think that would have extra stock of spare barrels just laying around.

Depending on who makes their barrels 8+ weeks lead time is not uncommon.

Yeah I know Bob I just waited 14 weeks for a new barrel...its a beauty but right now its a paper weight since I have no stock.....

Shared everyone's words of wisdom with my brother today.. he DID inspect & clean the gun prior to firing...

Just an update on my brother's Cooper. He got it back last week. They replaced the mag and cleaned it. It shoots better and pretty good but it's no match for the Anschutz he purchased while waiting for the return of the Cooper. He wins shooting matches with the Anschutz... end of story.
