Remington 597 TVP is a much better gun for silhouette, put a Volquartson hammer in one and it's ready to go. You'll have to shoot better ammo in one than you would in a bolt gun to be competitive but it's a third the price of the guns you've been talking about. I'm speaking to entry level guns and people of course.

I bought one of the champions choice 1712's and am really happy with it on my hunter gun. Point of concern though is that these are feather weight 1712's so when I had Steve Wooster put a stock on it I was fully a pound under the hunter weight limit. Some lead up in the fore end added some weight up where you want it so I'm not complaining. This rig with Lapua center x is giving stupid good groups off the bench and when the monkey behind the gun does his part put up a personal best score at the Iron Man in MT weekend before last.

I'm pretty new (4 years) to this game so I try to listen more than I talk but from my experience a 54-18 for standard and a 1712 for hunter is the way to go. Both guns will shoot better than almost anyone. The lock time isn't as fast as a Sako or 541 but the trigger and the fact that great guys like Wooster and Pharr are out there to put a custom stock on the iron so that the gun fits you make the Anschutz guns the way to go.

Last thought...Being the eternal optimist and involved in logistics by career champions choice is likely to have them in again at $975 or there about as the Euro has been on the down slide due to the drama over in Greece and Spain. Now if only our ammo guys at Lapua and Eley would follow suit. One can hope...
