Re: New Shooter Experience
Thank you for the offer and I will keep it in mind. I can probably use all the help I can get. In the meantime, I will get myself out to the next match and get my feet wet!

Re: New Shooter Experience
Last year when my granddaughter was 9, I bought her a Savage youth rifle and started her plinking Rams at 40 meters off sandbags. She is very petite, quiet and a reserved individual, but to see her look over at me with a smirk on her face after knocking off the FIRST Ram, that was really precious. She has her scope dialed in at 60 meters this year and the pigs are no problem off sandbags. My next move is to go to 77 meters. I wish we had more time together for this. I wish I had her eyes.Jason wrote: Back to the original subject, welcome to the sport, Dr. K! Last Saturday when I was at a smallbore cowboy lever action silhouette match with my daughter, it occurred to me how much more fun silhouette is now that my daughter is shooting with me. I couldn't stop grinning after she got so excited after hitting a few targets in a row. I tend to get too serious about analyzing and improving specific aspects of shooting. She reminded me how much fun the sport really is. I shot better after that.
It is time I post a Come-ALL, Bring-ALL, .22 Rifle, to join us at the Sillhouette Range.....bla..bla ...try a new experience......on our club website. See if this works to get new shooters.

Yes...the grin after nailing the first silhouette is priceless. Although the one I got from my 12 year old was more the half satisfaction and half "I got your number old man" kind!

Re: New Shooter Experience
Down in Houston we have our matches on Saturdays. Second Saturday of every month is Bayou Rifles, on the west side of town, and fourth Saturday is Pearland Sportsman Club (PSC) on the south side of town. Both matches start at 10am, so it's not a stretch to get there from Austin. Both serve lunch and juniors shoot free. Well, most juniors shoot free, some are charged double, but that's another story. You should come out. All kids love road trips and that isn't too bad to do in a day. Beaumont is the first Saturday (Golden Triangle) and they're always happy to have visitors. New Braunfels (CTSA)< I think that's right> has matches too!
Yes, I need a better spotter, and a better rifle, and better ammo. A rest wouldn't hurt either. As part of the Pack mule/ATM team (PMATM) we're usually too wiped out by the time the match starts to shoot well. Winni wiped me out. That last match Sunday afternoon was a struggle.
Elisabeth's been shooting a bunch of 39's lately. Last match in Beaumont, after her 10 in a row chickens, her new spotter (the 15 year old) remarked, " Why couldn't you have done that at Winnsboro?" Turkeys have been the latest culprits.

Re: New Shooter Experience
I'd heard of the range in New Braunfels...I believe they are the only ones near me that have HP silhouette. I did not know that there were options in Houston and Beaumont (Thanks!). I know the drive well as I used to work with a customer there on a weekly basis for about 1.5 years. I will look for the websites and bookmark them. It seems like we never have time to make full day trips, but, I think that is mainly a planning and priorities thing. I guess I've got enough options that I could probably go and find a match most any weekend...a very good thing!

Here's a link to the range in New Braunfels. http://silhouette-texas.us/
They shoot smallbore in the morning, high power in the afternoon, on the first Sunday of the month.
