range requirements for Nationals; 2013 location??
Somewhere saw the comment about 'time to lower range requirements' for Nationals? Was any discussion to that brought up at the competitors meeting? How many years will it take to get the board to change? Is it the board or Greg? Anyone to comment on what was discussed? Any info on 2013 location or dates? Thanks

Re: range requirements for Nationals; 2013 location??
I think it is going back to Ridgeway PA in 2013. At least I am hoping that is where they have it between the two spots they currently use as I would like to try and go next year.
Not sure what the issue is with having 10 banks of animals when you aren't even pulling in 100 shooters to the match to begin with, sure seems like anyplace with even 5 banks could handle things no problem. Maybe more people go to Ridgeway I don't know but I seem to recall it being only as high as around 120-130 shooters since I have been shooting this game.
Over these past going on 5 years now I am starting to understand why the pistol shooters formed their own sanctioning body. I don't really have any issues with the game itself barring a few stupid rules that are meaningless IMO. It is the seeming lack of any interest in helping to promote the game by the NRA that baffles me. Maybe I just don't see it

Good luck! We applied so many years and had our applications rejected for numerous reasons. It is beyond my comprehension that the NRA would turn down our offer from the State of Louisiana to promote the match if we were successful in getting it. Strictly bullshit and that is why Winnsboro Gun Club will hold a "NRA Southern Nationals Non-shooting Party" and probably out draw the attendance at the Nationals. The great guys from South Louisiana are planning on running a match similar to what we did for 22 years. We will have the normal great prizes but you do not have to shoot to win any of them!
We already have over 25 Partiers signed up and they have each paid the $75 fee!

I'm not so sure its the NRA so much as who from the NRA runs the show. As far as hosting the Nationals we tried to get the smallbore nationals in Missouri (just outside St Louis)....to no avail....the NRA wanted smallbore and highpower together...to keep attendance up!? How'd that work out? We are smack dab in the middle of the country and have a great facility......we have since abandoned the effort

Re: range requirements for Nationals; 2013 location??
It was not talked about at Raton this year.
The discussion was centered around how the match was run the first day. It was not a good first day. We were all done shooting by 2 in the afternoon.
The requirement that you have 10 bays of animals and be able to host both the SB and HP at the same place cuts down on the number of ranges that can do it. With only 3 relays, a person doesn't have much time to do anything but shoot and spot. They gave us 25 minutes for lunch.

Its nice to have the matches togethet....but not at the expense of the sport. The 10 bay requirment needs to be dropped the requirement to hold both HP and SB in the same place also needs to be dropped....some may not like this...but if the attendence numbers are not there let someone else run it that can and will run it better. But the NRA dosent want to give up its stangle hold on the locations where the matches are held and the sport is suffering for it.

Malinois you nailed it! You do not need 10 bans with the numbers that have been at Nationals. The NRA does not give a damn about what the shooters wanton need. Could it be that Winnsboro Gun Club with only 38 members actually gave a rat's ass about what the competitors wanted? Damn right and why we have out-drawn the NRA in the attendance each year! We may even do it this year and not even host a shooting match but a reunion party and have all the prizes without the pressure of shooting!

All the best Nationals I have been to have always been done by the smaller clubs....Winnsboro being the best sample of what can be done. Hope you all fare well down there with the storm..

Re: range requirements for Nationals; 2013 location??
Well I'm disappointed that they say they will never go back to Ben Avery. Some complained it was too hot, but from what I've seen of the last three Nationals held at Raton I think being able to shoot the whole match Vs not with all the travel and expense to only see the match shortened or shooting at swingers because of the conditions is not acceptable with the travel costs for attending a match today (not to mention the higher match entry fees the NRA is charging). FWIW... For me, I'll suffer with the heat and shoot Vs spend all that travel money and entry fees not shoot a full match or have conditions that are that unfavorable.
The NRA missed a great opportunity by not taking Ducky and Winny's offer up. Top class!!

Matches should be held a reasonable distance from an airport. Renting a car to drive 200 miles one way to the match sucks. Many bitched about the heat at Ben Avery but it didn't seem any hotter than Winnsboro was when they had the nationals there. Duckie did put on a good match both times I was there but the humidity killed this desert rat. I would go back to both places along with the one that was held in NE.

Re: range requirements for Nationals; 2013 location??
Why not do something actually novel and ask each and every competitor that has ever attended National where they would like to have it. forget Winnsboro as we are officially retired from running NRA Championship matches either State, REgional or otherwise. We are now concentrating on running a party; however, if Jerry Tureau and his crew as well as Bill Motl, Pat Steiger or Mary Watkins need permission to run any type of match on our facilities they have our permission and blessing of our membership. It does not take long to poll 38 members! We are just old and tired now as well as more cantankerous!
As long as Weasel-face is running the show, the championships will be where he says and run as he dictates. That is why the sport is dying! The onluy thing wrong is that our organization needs a few funerals!

Re: range requirements for Nationals; 2013 location??
I have never had an issue with the conditions at the matches. I have accepted the fact that silhouette is fired outdoors and such is life..Isnt that what silhouette is all about being out in the elements and having a good time. The way the NRA has done it has taken all the fun out of it and killed the sport..just no variety. as for where to hold it all the past places where great NE, OH, OR TX, NM...all good I dont care if both campionships are together not everyone shoots em both anyways back in the day I just made a choice HP or SB or both if time, money allowed.
