Tips to remove the rubber butt pad from a McMillan stock..

I have a 54.18 with a McMillan thumbhole stock. It currently has the thinner rubber style pad attached to the buttstock which has a slightly curved contour. After shooting it for a few months now I am noticing that I have an issue with getting the butt shouldered consistently on my vest. Being curved the bottom wants to touch my vest first and I am either ending up forcing it further down only to overdue things and lift it back up.

I want to replace this curved piece with a piece of thicker shoe crepe that would be flat like I have on all my other rifles. This style gives me a consistent shoulder placement and rolls right into the pocket on the vest.

Should I use a heat gun or hair drier to try and get it loose or perhaps freeze it? I want to say someone once told me they had to freeze theirs to get it off but can't recall with certainty. I guess it could be ground off but I would rather just peel it off or cut it clean from the flat end of the stocks butt. It doesn't appear to be attached with any screws or pins only some sort of adhesive.

Any info or tips appreciated.

Poke up and down around the center with a small phillips screw driver, and see if you can fill a hole for the screws, but being carbon fiber, I will assume is glued on. Don't use a heat gun, it will affect the stock. You can use a sharp thin blade knife, and put it in the junction, and start tapping it with a hammer, it should come right off.

I've done it with a chop saw with a fine kerf blade. Just hang on tight.

I have a McMillian on my 1712 mine was held on with some type of glue, I did something similar to what Evelio described. I
used a razor knife at the junction took my time and worked it a little at a time, and I was able to get it apart.

Thanks for the info guys. I was thinking cleaving it with a long thin blade would probably be best as well no heat or cold applied. As for the chop saw I think I am going to pass, fine kerf my ass
