Grand Slam Pin

Post by Byron »

I know there was some interest in what number pin the NRA was on. My Standard Pin came today and it is #289.

I've had the Hunter for a couple of years. Most of time I shoot just one gun but struggled to shoot the 10 turkeys in the right match.

Congrats Byron! I need turkeys for mine as well. Although for Target airgun I only need rams but that is easier said than done it seems. Soon I will put it all together for a bank of turks so many 9's I have even seen the 10th one jump up and land back on the rail before! Only 8 in Hunter HP wow. Something to really shoot for. Only shot a few HP matches so far and have Hunter Pigs already :) I asked Mark how long he was waiting to get those HP Turks after he hit them in Ark. IIRC he said 22 years!

The slams are a neat thing to strive for and give you something to shoot at achieving over the longer haul of shooting in this game.

Do they have 40/40 pins too?

Ole_Sarge, yes the Grand Slam pin is for achieving 10 in a row of each of the four animals in an approved or regsistered match. The forms should be completed by the match officals, and sent into the NRA, where they keep a record of the animals. Some are earned quickly, and others can take years, each is engraved with the number on the back of the pin. This is the total number of persons achieving this level in the NRA records. While this seems easy enough of a record keeping system, there are some forms submitted that get lost. I was able to prove my 10 in a row in Rams on hunter rifle with my copy of the forms for matches shot in Jax, neither were acknowledged by the NRA, so a much later entry from Chuluota at an approved match was finally acknowledged.
I do not have my pins with me for posting photos, but they are all 4 animals, in the color of the rifle that they have been awarded, such as dark brown for standard rifle, tan for hunter etc.

thanks for the info, I was just curious.

I am not in danger of any 5 in a row pin any time in the foreseeable future.... unless?
someone donates me a better/younger body

If I knew I was going to live this long I might have taken better care of the one i have, or maybe not :-o
