Looking for 455 Varmint; found 453 Varmint

So, I've been lurking for awhile and have been musing on getting father/son's CZ .22s for plinking and possibly some informal silhouette comps. My son is 2.5, so it'll be awhile, but hey, I'm excited for the day he's able to go out with me. I've been wanting to get into precision shooting for a while but have resisted since I have a bit of OCD tendencies and I can see that I might get caught up in handloading to the point where the rest of my life falls apart. .22 seems like it would take care of at least that aspect (not that match ammo is cheap by any means).

So, it's a Scout for him. For me, I've been looking at the 455 Varmint since the 452's have all but dried up. BUT, I found a new 453 Varmint at a local shop today. My inclination is to grab it over the 455 but I wanted to get other opinions on the matter. $497. Any thoughts?

I believe the difference between 453 and 455 is in the trigger, 453 being a single set trigger. I will let someone with more experience than myself point out the merits of single set triggers. I recently bought a 455 Varmint and realized it was only good for standard class due to a non-tapered barrel. I wound up buying a 455 American barrel and doing a retrofit so that I could use one rifle in both classes to get started. They are nice rifles. I am very pleased with mine.

Triggers are important, Have bought and sold rifles over the trigger more than barrels. 2 stage is an advantage in Hunter class with a 2 lb pull requirement. Take up 1 1/2 lbs worth of slack feel a "stop" then break with another 8 oz. Silhouette rifle no mimimum pull weight and most use single stage thats real light. Very difficult to get a reliable 2 stage pull with 4-6 oz triggers. Used to have a 64 MS 2 stage run real light, was always getting A/D's cause I could not feel the "stop" My 1712 at 2 lbs you can hold all day with the first stage taken out.

Set trigger is different perform some kind of action to "set" the trigger then another to fire the gun. Double Set = two triggers Single Set = push it forward to cock back to fire. I don't know the CZ's but guessing the trigger is single stage not single set. Never saw a 2 lb set trigger, may be out there just never saw one.

Found that 453 on CZ's Site. It is single set. Never a owned SS trigger rifle but several friends of mine use them in BPCS. Push it forward to set, pull to fire with light pull. Lot of Winchester Levers and Single Shots had single set triggers, advantage is they could be fired normal manner with a hunting pull and set when needed. Most Double sets won't fire on the front trigger until set on the rear.

Modern Silhouette Single set could be a very good trigger however may disqualify it for Hunter class. Set, it's probably under 2 lbs.

And yes, set triggers are ineligible for Hunter class. Some have argued that adjusting the trigger to eliminate the set fixes that problem, but that would still be up to a match director.
