Molested 1712 on RFC
A new poster on RFC is looking to unload his molested 1712, amazing what shouldn't be done to a nice rifle. Cut the barrel buttstock and forearm way to short and "adjust" the trigger then try and sell it. Who knows what else he did to it, I'm guessing it was a complete customization.

So sad. Pat just built me a gun and I also bought a older Evelio gun. I can't fathom some hacking up nice firearm like that but there are silly people born every day....

Re: Molested 1712 on RFC
I love the line in his original post "other than that the rifle is near flawless" talking about the barrel being cut down. He sounds like he's going to bail off the RFC forum, assuming that every part of this gun has been molested by his "gunsmith" including the action and trigger what's the gun worth...300.00 someone should make an offer.
Reminds me of a 700 a guy tried to sell me once that the sear was riding over on, I asked him if he had adjusted the trigger and it was still poor prior to him stoneing the sears, his response was "You can't adjust those" He didn't take it apart and stone it, he did it through the inspection hole! The 3 adjustment screws were untouched! I passed on it after he told me that he had lapped the locking lugs as well.

He's getting some great "advice" from the guys over on RFC, if he's lucky one of them will pony up 750.00 for it, if it goes on gunbroker it could be painful for him.

He probably got that barrel cut advice off the internet. Makes Wal Mart ammo shoot like Eley.

Re: Molested 1712 on RFC
If someone had a 1712 take-off barrel and the original wood stock from project where both were replaced this wouldn't be a bad gun to try and aquire assuming the action and trigger are unmolested, trigger has already been messed with but could be ok, who knows about the action, it might have been slicked up or blueprinted
Look close at the picture that shows the bolt body, it's either rusted or worn much more than "100 rounds" would make it.

Run away. Just run away. Evelio always gets mad at me for tinkering, but I always left the metal work to him. That barrel looks like it was put in a bench vice.

WOW
what an example of fine gunsmithing that is!
These "mods" would destroy a Wall-Mart gun.
A dang shame, that is.
I have a lot of .22 cal rifles and hand guns and some that are well worn, not one of them would I trade even up for this train wreck.
I would give what him the cost of used rings and a mag and he would have to pay the shipping.
At that I may get "hosed" then

Like I said over on RFC, if I had $750 laying around doing nothing I'd buy this in a second. Throw a lightweight high quality scope on it and hit the woods and kill some squirrels in style. There is a high bidder, and the name of the bidder is quite familiar. Maybe he'll bring it to Pe Ell this year so that I can play with it!
