Gary Doerr

Post by richard »

I hate to make this kind of post however I got an email yesterday telling me that Gary passed away several days ago. I was not a close friend but always enjoyed seeing him at the matches, talking with him and watching him shoot. He was a cool guy and I will miss seeing his white camper van at matches all over the place. I know no details but I understand he did have health issues for the last few years.

Gary will be missed by those who had the pleasure of knowing his smile, twinkle in the eye and Lisc 2 Roam tag on his van. He was a great mentor to many in all the sports that he loved. His love for ice cream (long with Ernie Mellor) earned him a nick name in the south as Ben and Jerry, I know that many of will miss him. RIP and may all your shots be center hits, stay safe on the motorbike buddy.

Gary certainly was a notably fun guy to be and shoot with. He was knowledgeable about everything from motorcycles and cars to guns and ice cream. I believe he won some national championships in off road motorcycle racing with his buddy Ernie. He'll be remembered well by many of us.

Was this the same gentleman that lived in NY if I recall correctly and traveled in his little minibus to matches? He had some self resetting SB targets he would sell at the matches? I only met him once in Florida at a match and maybe at Winnie I forget. He was the kind of guy that treated you like he always knew you for years. Sad to hear of his passing. Really great guy and funny too.

Yes that was Gary. Always a great guy to have around. We enjoyed his company when we were at Ridgway. He was always quick to lend a hand and always up to it when there were targets to be set. He will be missed.

I just heard about Gary today. I am so sorry to hear about this. He was a delightful man who seemed to enjoy life to the fullest. When I first met him at the Winnesboro Match he was with his good friend Ernie. They offered me a beer and showed me great Northern hospitality. Since that day, I always looked forward to seeing Gary and Ernie at future matches. I send my sincere condolences and prayers to the family and Ernie. He will be greatly missed.
