Barrel band sight mount
Anyone have any ideas as to a barrel band front sight mount for a 1712? Lipski and CC make them but the smallest diameter appears to be .750". I suppose the option would be to shim down to the 1712 barrel diameter. Thoughts on the best shim material? I want to try the switch to aperture sights but I don't want to mar my barrel or drill and tap it for a front sight mount dovetail. Ideas?
Thanks. Cheers, Steve

About anything that will hold it tight is going to mar the blue anway. Neatest most usefull rimfire front sight mount is a Unertl style block that the front sight screws onto. How are you going to mount a usefull rear without drilling ? Rear Sights that clamp on the actions dovetail are going to sit too high for the stock comb.
Cheap as good out of date .22 target rifles are just buy one for Iron sight matches. They weigh more than a 1712 and will be a better solution. I have a Silhouette 1712 and several iron sight target .22's No way a 7 lb 2 lb trigger Anschutz will shoot postion iron sight matches with a Wincester 75, M1922 Springfield or 513 Remington. Scope sighted Silhouette set up to meet the NRA Rule yes, Get down prone with a sling the Anschutz 1712 is out of it's usefull range.
Opinon only others might not agree.

What are you going to use it for? Are you going to try position or prone matches with it or just try your hand at hitting silhouette targets with it?

Yeah, I just want to shoot offhand with it. If I was thinking of position shooting, I'd get a match rifle with a 4p or prone stock.
Thanks, Steve.
