Best match in the country.....

Post by OnaginOffagin »

While my experience is limited, and I'm not a top-rank shooter, I want to state my heartfelt claim that the Conard Bernhardt Memorial Smallbore Match is the best rifle match in the country, regardless of the discipline. It is well-run, well-managed, rich with prizes, and allows some of us lesser beings the opportunity to rub shoulders with the great. Incidentally, most of the "greats" are some of the most approachable, easy-going personalities around..... I also noticed that when given a choice of prizes, the higher shooters generally choose the least valuable, allowing those not as great (!) an opportunity to share equally in the riches. Class shooters, class people. Steve Wooster and his hard-working assistants of the PeEll Sportsman's Club should be proud of their match. It's people like Steve, Loren, Larry, Gary and others who just might save the sport of marksmanship in this country. Thank you, gentlemen.

(Of course, my perceptions might be colored by the fact that I won the Saturday night door prize, a 1712 fwt in a Wooster stock! I'm euphoric -- I have never won such a valuable (and such an unearned!) prize before... Because of this, my long-suffering wife may start shooting now, and if she doesn't: I'll shoot the new rifle and keep my old 1710 as a spare loaner, a loaner with which I'll try and entice others to try this great game.)

I whole heartedly agree.

Wish I could say I am happy you won that rifle. I already had a scope picked out for it! Haha!

No, Mary, I won't sell the used Wooster stock I bought from Loren... It kind of tightened up my wife's mouth corners there for a minute when I told her I had just spent 400 green ones, but she started smiling again when I won the lottery! I popped off the OEM stock of my 1710 and screwed on the new-to-me Wooster just minutes before the match began (yeah, yeah, I know, never change anything before a match, let alone "during!").... But within a few rounds, I felt very good about the fit, and my scores began to climb a little during day two..... Wooster stocks just plain work...... I think my wife is going to get the 1710 with the used Wooster....
