New Rifle Class

The SB rifle classes are too similar, IMHO. I would like to see a Scheutzen Silhouette Class added for target rifles and Scheutzen matches could be fired alone. This class should accomodate the standard international class rim fire target rifles with scopes but without a slings being allowed. It woild be fun to have the more relaxed SB silhouette venue to use scoped Anschutz 1913 Alu stock or Fortner biathlon rifles.

Possibly could work if using the CLA (SB) targets.

I have an old Walther single shot target rifle and shot it at the club. During the SB std match. The chixs and rams are hard to pick up with a diopter.

I think the CLA targets would be to larger and an intermediate size needed. That new size creates new issues.

Good idea, don't see why clubs can't just try it out and see what is the turnout. As boats has said, our club has an offhand match after the sb silh match.

It would be shot with scopes mounted on the big international style rifles, or custom scheutzen style rifles, or old scheutzen rifles...just no slings or heavy shooting coats, etc. Like Standard but allowing for heavy weight and adjustable stock.

When I think of scheutzen or target rifles, I think of open sights. Any reason to not shoot this new class with open sights? Most people with these rifles will already have open sights.

Otherwise I see this as the Standard class expanded.

Yes, an expanded Standard Class so that we can use those cool international heavy weights. Scopes? Well, pardner, I am 66 years old and I do not see as well as I did back in the day...U.S. Army 1970-76. I can't hit what I can't see, except I can take out the rack of chickens with an M-79 and grape blind folded, one shot, as long as I could hear 'em cluckin'.

Are we discussing a new class for the small quantity of existing shooters? Or looking to expand the sport to new shooters? And age group?

I'm in the same club as boats, we'll allow any rifle to shoot and the OP category (target and scheutzen scoped rifles) would be in our open class. But remember, not every scheutzen rifle can be scoped.

There are some 3P shooters we could attract if we kept it at open sights. Same with scheutzen rifles. Just would need slightly larger targets (possibly cla?)

How about an 'entry' level class or semi auto class? Many younger shooters gravitate to those rifles. Especially with the popularity of 3 gun competition and similar events.

Yeah. Open Class. Any rifle and sight just no slings or heavy shooting jackets/gloves. New shooters: the bulls eye shooters with big rim fire target rifles could take off the metallic sights and buy a Weaver T-24 or T-36 and have another place to shoot for just another $400; and junior NRA indoor/outdoor/4H, etc. shooters putting scopes on their Anschutz 64 target rifles. I might have started with an aluminum stock Anschutz 54 instead of a Cooper 57-M because the Anschutz 54 Alu is so uber pimp.

"uber pimp"? From FrankenHunter to this? Why not - as you say, for a small investment position shooters and small bore tactical (read that as "AR with a .22 upper") would gain another place to play.

If your club wants to do something different (like add another class) do it. Don't try to include the rest of us unless you have a huge following. We had a chin gun that lasted about 2 years. It made life difficult for people putting on a match.

Not to mention a lot of regulars that left the sport after they invested a lot on money in their chin guns that got banned.
