NH 2013 Granite State Regional July 13-14th

NH has had a regional for many many years. For reasons I do not fully understand folks who used to travel from NY and NJ no longer make the trek. Could be the cost of fuel, could be schedule, could be format. So we have made some changes.

This year the format is squaded and no "club rifle". Sat will be 100% 1/5th. Two 80 shot matches divided by lunch with two relays. 16 shooters per relay. SBHR and SBR. Sunday will be 100% 1/2 scale PCCLA and SBCR. Again, two 80 shot matches back to back. Due to the popularity of SBCR, I can see adding a third relay to accommodate 48 shooters. All that fun for just $50 if you preregister. That should help offset the cost of ammo and fuel! Plus, shoulder to shoulder shoot-offs can be held.

Hope to see some out of state shooters! We moved it up right before Nationals so maybe a few NH shooters can make it to Nationals this year. That is the plan anyway. Questions, use the contact info on the program. Phone and email there. Camping is available and convenient but no electricity unless you park at the clubhouse. Always an option.

Forgive my ignorance but...what is "club rifle"?

Well....ah....I guess I opened the can of worms.

All three active silhouette clubs in NH run monthly matches during the summer with the same format. At all clubs, the following animals are all up simultaneously. 1/5th @ 40,60, 77, 100m for SBR and SBHR and, 1/2 scale thick for PCCLA, 1/2 scale thin for SBCR at 40, 50, 75, 100m. To encourage new shooters, novices are allowed to start with a scoped gun on the 1/2 thin targets. Once they drop 30 three times, they are moved up to expert club rifle and shoot on the thick animals. Dropping a thick 1/2 ram can be quite a challenge for 22LR. All of this is the spirit of "introducing" new shooters. A great idea as along as they eventually dump the training wheels and start in on the "real game", either scoped 1/5th or iron sight cowboy venues. Some choose to never "step up" to 1/5th scale targets or get a legal cowboy gun.

So, this year, to encourage the NH folks to take off the training wheels, there will be no club rifle at the regional. I should not have even mentioned it to those outside of NH. We also have club rifle iron sight which only shoots on thin. A way for folks to use those old target 22s. This will not make everyone happy but.....life of a match director.

This years regional is all business, none of that "silly non NRA recognized" club rifle. I had heard rumor that some of our out of state shooters thought having club rifle run concurrent to a NRA regional was a bit "amateur". If the rumor was true, I wanted to highlight the fact ONLY NRA rifle categories will be shot this year.

We had a great match right before the oven got to full cooking temp. Perfect timing! Rain ended, we shot and then the Texans sent us some of their hot air! Results are at the end of the page.

Thanks to Randy and Mike for making the long haul from PA. The shot great and kept the New England guys honest. This year's format went great with shooting 20 of each animal before moving to the next position. I am pretty sure the format is a keeper with some thought of having CLA on Friday. Hummm.

Thanks to all of those who made the journey. Next year I am getting a laptop in the stat shack and make quicker determination of shoot offs. Thanks Venture Crew 556 who set animals tirelessly....even when those big animals started to get heavy by the end of the day Sunday.
