Forced relocation to California

Post by topclass »

Not by choice I am relocating from Washington (state) to NorCal in a few weeks, specifically near Tracy. Besides Diablo Rifle Club, where else within a couple of hours can I shoot smallbore and/or air rifle silhouette? Somebody said something about Modesto but I can't confirm where or find contact info. I was also told there are military silhouette matches in Lodi, but again, no information. Any help to ease the culture shock is appreciated.

Good luck with that. I was given the "move from WA to CA and get a raise or find a different job" choice a few years ago. I got lucky in that I found a different job in the company pretty quickly. My destination in CA wasn't going to be close to all the silhouette matches I hear the Cali guys talking about when we're at the big matches, either.

Bummer, sorry to hear about that move, I couldn't get out on NY fast enough, but CA is worse.

Send a note/PM to Tony T (Loneringer). He should be able to give you all the places to shoot.

Sorry I am in Southern CA. Your best bet is the free digital NRA publication "Shooting Sports USA", check the back pages for places to shoot.

Topclass,

There are plenty of opportunities to shoot near where you're moving to. Here are just a few of the matches off the top of my head. You can shoot every Sat and Sun of the month, probably. Check the links below for the full skinny.

1st Saturday of the month at the Sacramento Valley Shooting Center = BPCR Silhouette (great bunch of guys there that can get you going right quick.

Edited to add: First Sunday 200 meter reduced HP silhouette at the Chabot Gun Club.

2nd Saturday: Modesto Schuetzen matches (SB and Center-fire)
2nd Saturday: SB Silhouette at the Sunnyvale Rod and Gun Club
2nd Saturday: Avenal BPCR Silhouette (Friday evening before Sat match is 50 ft indoor 22LR)
2nd Sunday: Avenal Cowboy Silhouette (camping at range)

3rd Saturday: Military Silhouette at Sac Valley

3rd Saturday: SB & HP Silhouette at Coalinga , camping at range
3rd Sunday: SB & HP Silhouettte at Avenal, camping at range (Avenal is about 20 miles from the Coalinga range.)

4th Thursday evening: Air Rifle Silhouette at the Sunnyvale Rod and Gun Club
