prepping for a match...moa numbers per yardage

Bill,

No matter how nice the guys are or how good they are, you should be able to shoot your rifle at the range for at least a few minutes before the match. Does everyone warm up on the same 2-inch piece of steel at 40 meters before the match??

I was there only once before scoring for one of the shooters. I could have missed it but, yes, I think that all shooters used a 2inch steel circle, located at the chicken banks, for sighting.I'll just show up a little early and see what I can do to prep. It will be ok. They are a very gracious group of guys. /Bill

They probably allow paper sighter targets just don't do it, same guys shooting every month. Take some cardboard boxes staple a target to the side in advance. All you have to is drop in front of the berms at proper distance.

My match any shooter wants to put up paper during the sight in it's fine, but expect them to have it ready to go so we don't delay start of the match. Boxes are quick and easy. Sometime our routine is strange to new shooters however range time is limited 9am county imposed start Dark shuts it down. Most months we run 40 plus shooters through the program Regulation Silhouette and Single Shot Club match. Down range re-sets have to go fast or we run out of time. Paper ready to go is never a problem.

My update...Sighting in at the four yardages did not go perfectly, but close enough. Had the range to myself, could only walk off the yardages and ran out of time for the rams. Still, I did hit some animals from all stations. Pleased that my estimation yielded some success.
The ram was supposed to be at 105 but I think it was placed closer to 110. The range has an upward slope of 6ft. Not sure as to how
much that impacts moa's.

Nerves were my biggest problem. Final score: 10. Oddly not very impressive shooting this morning
from the more experienced ones. 12 won. Small club. Casual friendly matches. I look forward to doing this more often. Reminded
me of my days as a competitive golfer. Some days, I just could not settle down. And, it's true...coffee may make me "feel" better and
more alert but I speculate that it can open the door a little bit better for nerves to surface. I had three premature shots. Trigger pull
is about 8oz's. For a beginner, it may be too light. Two stage trigger and the first stage is close to 0.

I always check my 40m zero and the first animal I will start on the morning of the shoot. Temp and light can affect your sight settings.

Many first time shooters end up with a score of 8 to 15. Don't give up hope.

Good shooting for a first timer! 100 meters should be 109.361 yards, so 110 isn't too far off. Trigger control is something that you will work on all your shooting career, don't worry about a few early shots, they happen.
