Ruger vs Savage

In an attempt to get into the sport, I thought I would approach it with a reasonably priced .22. If I like it, the Anschutz 1712 can be obtained. The question now is with the Ruger 77/22 compared to the Savage Mark II (both laminated stocks) I don't understand the $250+ price difference. What am I missing here? Is there an alternate beginner rifle ( I am familiar with the CZ). Thanks for the advice. Barry

Suggest you read thread below on Ruger American Rimfire, would go that route for a lot less $$$$'s and likely be happier too.
