KIDD Lightweight barrel

This barrel is .920" for the first couple of inches, then steps down to .870", from there it appears to have no taper all the way to the muzzle. So, since it is wider at the back than the front, is it legal for Hunter?

My guess is it will depend on who is in charge. Some will say it is fine, some will dq it. For most folks my guess is if you can measure it at the chamber and the crown and it gets smaller it is good to go.

FYI Kidd does make a nice tapered barrel that is definitely legal.

If you have the barrel, go shoot it at a local match and get some opinions. If you're buying a new barrel, this would not be my first choice. I'd agree with OldRanger and suggest Kidd's tapered barrel. I have one of Kidds lightweight barrels and in my opinion, it's not light weight. Clark also makes a good tapered barrel that uses a tradional taper, similar to high power rifles. Like Kidd, Jimmy Clark's barrels are incredibly accurate.

I built the gun more for CMP type matches, but thought it would work for Silhouettes too. I would have definitely chosen another barrel for Silhouette purposes. But that's all water under the bridge now. Hopefully my match director won't be too strict in his interpretation.

Should be OK for hunter. I had on of the first Kidd taper barrels and higher weight 2 stage triggers he did and it was for my CMP rifle as well

It's more the other shooters than Match Director. I let questionable rifles shoot With the caution any competitor can protest. Then it goes to the jury, selected from competitors. Win Hunter with a no taper barrel count on it. Low score no issue is my experience.

Why not just shoot Silhouette Rifle if it's not a Hunter.

"Barrel: A hunting style contoured barrel that tapers from chamber to
muzzle. Bull barrels are not permitted. A factory tuner that does not
act as a muzzle brake or compensator is permitted. Maximum barrel
length is 26 inches, including tuner."

One literal interpretation might require a straight taper, another might mean only classic hunting tapers, but the technical interpretation I've seen most often used is that the muzzle end must be smaller than the chamber end, no matter how it got there.

Thanks for the opinions. I would like to put this expensive new toy to good use, but my CZ would probably be a better choice.

Here's an alternative. The factory 10-22 barrel needs some work to become match accurate. If you cut the breach end off and re-chamber it you can get match grade accuracy. This guy seems to have the market on that business https://sites.google.com/site/quesplace/que-barrel-work

A Que barrel has factory taper, but match chamber - seems to work well. Can't say it is better than a Kidd, but its an option.
