Scope placement problem
I need help from all of you Anschutz experts. As you can tell from some of my previous posts, I'm a newbie at silhouette. With that being said, I'm presently trying to get my scope to fit me. I have a long neck so I have to move the scope forward. The problem is that the rings are all the way forward on the dovetail already and I still need to move another 2 inches or so forward toward the muzzle. I have been looking around on the Anschutz official web site to try to find a base that would help me get the scope forward. Specifically, I clicked on the Anschutz Match /Target icon then clicked on "Accessories" and finally clicked on "sight set" where I scrolled down to the item labeled "long rail": part number 001061. Does anyone know if this part would fit onto an Anschutz 1808 MSR. In other words would this part clamp onto an 11 mm or 3/8 inch or both an 11mm and 3/8 inch dove tail. Also, does anyone know if this part is available in the good old USA and how much it might cost? I have not been able to find this part except in foreign countries. I'm frustrated already and I haven't even been to one silhouette competition.

Re: Scope placement problem
Use the highest legal (rings) configuration and you will find you don't have to crawl the stock to get good eye and head placement....

Re: Scope placement problem
Put the butt of the rifle high in your shoulder and shoot with your head erect, not neck down and crawling forward.

Re: Scope placement problem
I agree up not out is best. However if you really need to move it BKL makes an offset mount. Here is a link to one, but its just the first one that came up when I googled, might want to look around some. http://www.straightshooters.com/bkl-254 ... mount.html
I buy all my guns from t-rex. He's a small arms dealer.

Re: Scope placement problem
I run my 1712 with heel of the buttplate well over top of my shoulder. Have to so I get good cheek weld. Not optimal but meets the stock rule. Look at service rifle shooters with ARs same thing. Might try it before changing rings.

Re: Scope placement problem
I only have about 1"of the stock on my shoulder -- the rest is above -- in order to get a good cheek weld and keep my head erect.. I'm shooting a Wooster stocked 1710 with high BKL rings.

Re: Scope placement problem
Thanks for the tip, but I don't think raising my head a little is going to get the job done for me. I found an extension rail from Anschutz that I believe will solve my problem. Again, thanks for your input.

Re: Scope placement problem
I had issues with eye relief on my target air rifle. I used scope mounts made by sportsmatch (HETO42C) sold by air guns of arizona. Sportsmatch are very good quality, and they are the rings I use on all my rifles. I also have BKL and I think these are a step up.

Re: Scope placement problem
Exactly, my torso is long with a long neck. I have BKL Tech. rings along with their risers. My neck/head is in line with my body when I shoot. My neck/head is NOT leaning forward or backwards in looking through the scope eye piece.Merlin wrote:Use the highest legal (rings) configuration and you will find you don't have to crawl the stock to get good eye and head placement....
The BKL rings will fit 11mm and 3/8 dovetails. My scope height with BKL rings with risers is 1.44 inches high. That is measured from the top of the rifle receiver to the bottom of the scope. jaja, PM me with email and I can send you pictures. When you shoulder your rifle and your head is in line with your straight erect body, the scope eye piece will be right there. Maybe post a picture of your stance with rifle shouldered with mounted scope?

Re: Scope placement problem
I have back peddled and lowered my scope height 2 weeks ago by removing the BKL risers and now scope is .77 inches high. Instead of the chin weld, we will see if the cheek weld is any improvement with my 452 American with head adjustment. Now wearing an arm brace to heal the elbow, so have only practiced twice. I did feel comfortable with what I call, "Getting down into it," with the lower ring height. Four more weeks or so, we will be back at it. I can't expect to much when shoot once a week and practice when I feel like it. Maybe get more serious 2014...... I know I shot worse last year when raised scope height with chin weld and stuck it out for some reason or other, so starting all over. Need one more score for AA and that is from 2012. We will see how it goes. No Rush, but just have fun!

Erect head positon is good helps balance. Solid Cheek weld is better, holds the rifle steady.

Re: Scope placement problem
Boats, 3 weeks ago I asked for advice from an old club member, who has shot most every discipline that there is and well versed in these sports. I was thinking about a different sportier stock that would give me the cheek weld that I need and still have tall rings to keep my head erect. I have short legs, long in the body with long neck. He said to go back and reduce the ring height to get the cheek weld. I removed the risers that Wednesday morning and with his indoor make shift BR equipment, he re-sighted my LH 452 American at 50 feet. His only comment was, Sightron's scope turrets are rather mushy. I acknowledged the fact with having to be extra careful in the feel. Last summer when the Wed morning group was shooting Silhouette that month, he told me to try his rifle. Both of us are the same build. He asked me how it felt and mentioned that there was a one inch pad added to butt length. I did not feel as cramped using his. Then he laid both rifles down side by side on the picnic table and began to explain. I can add a 1 inch thick butt plate for Std, but not for Hunter. I might order a 1 inch thick slip-on rubber butt extension and use for Std and see if any improvement. But, shooting once a week and practice when I feel like it, I can't expect very much. Just like in golf, which I thoroughly enjoy too!. Jon

Re: Scope placement problem
Why can't you extend the length of pull on the sporter? Lots of people have done that. Just make the extension match the lines of the stock and don't let the toe of the stock go too low.

Re: Scope placement problem
If I remember, in Hunter Class, nothing can be added to barrel in the way of a compensator or so called cheek rest. Assume it means the butt end too. These items can be made in Std Class only. I will have to get out the rule book again.Jerry G wrote:Why can't you extend the length of pull on the sporter? Lots of people have done that. Re: Scope placement problem
Changing length of pull with various butt pads of different thicknesses is common practice.
