I returned two scopes to Leopold. One 6.5x20 purchased new that would not focus down to 50' other a spotter used and broken when I bought it. Both times they were great, turn around and quality of the repair. Been on the claims end of business before, you see it all, miss communication, unreasonable request and mostly our errors which we did our best to fix. Long as it is taken care of in the end it's OK with me. Nobody’s perfect, and Leopold is a lot better than most.

Chinese way to handle this is buy 100 items they ship 110, Extras are to cover replacements. Next order they ask you how many came back. Tell them 2 they cut the shipment to 102.

Much prefer the American way, build quality, stand behind it with a real repair, not replace and throw away the bad one.

The product is mislabeled, not faulty. That is why it came back twice. I'm not saying they didn't droped the ball, they did. Publicly berating them for a mistake that is so
odd and out of place that they failed to catch it is a bit harsh. What if they instituted a new warranty disclaimer that their product carries no warranty for competition use. I have use A LOT of items in my life that had just such a warranty clause.

We'll just have to agree to disagree and I retain, judge how you want to be judged.... Just sayin.
I want to be judged on the things I do right... and wrong.

Im sorry but so far your arguments have been that they don't deserve this because they are:
An American company
They make scopes for silhouette
They almost always have good customer service

And... because it could be worse, they could NOT have a warranty. Really?

I think your love for leupold is unconditional.

I will be judged as a whole... not just the good.

You need to re-read what I wrote. I simply stated that posting in a public forum might not be prudent. They are guilty for installing the wrong ring on a objective and then not recognising it twice. Publicly damning them for it seems a bit extreme. Take it as you will. :ymhug:

I think a public forum is a fine place to vent your frustrations and tell people that a company failed to get it right after multiple phone calls and sending in the problem equipment twice. That doesn't seem at all extreme to me. Now if he had gone on and on calling them the devil and screaming for all of us to smash all of our leupolds in protest THAT would seem extreme to me. Also, I assume when it is fixed right (which it probably will be eventually) the OP will post here and tell us how it turned out. Then this thread will be a testament to the greatness of leupolds warranty and service. But I would be pretty po'd if I sent it in twice and was assured over the phone that all was well too.

Consider it part of the educational process. I would never have consider that Leupold had mislabeled the scope but it makes perfect sense. If that is the problem, then there's a sound explanation for the whole episode even though Leupold takes lumps for making the mistake and then compounding it.

Since they are an American manufacturer they have to charge more, and they need to provide premium products and service to keep their customers. Leupold usually does that, but when they miss they need to know, and we need to remember that these things happen even with great companies.

I'll add that I've yet to have leupold repair my scopes the first time I sent them in. And my issues were relatively simple to diagnose. So I'm sympathetic to the OP's issues. I've sent in 2 scopes and one issue was never resolved - I asked then to install the 1/2' dot. I got a small one. Sent it back twice, even spoke to a technician and I was never satisfied. I had to send an EFR to them twice to repair the AO. My opinion is their repair facility does not have a QC check to verify the customers issue was addressed. In both cases, they verified tracking, cleaned the lenses and sent it back. FedEX shipping costs both ways were running about $70 round trip.

I agree with OldRanger, do something drastic like shoot the glass out and you'll get satisfactory service, but give them an issue to diagnose - good luck.

That being said, I just sent them an old 24x BR with a sticky erector tube. My first shot after changing elevation setting goes to the old point of aim. Shots thereafter fall into place. They need to replace the spring and lubricate it. I'm betting they'll "test" it. Find it's ok, then send it back with test results in the box. When they call for my Visa card, they better tell me they did something or there will be a butt chewing.

I don't want to seem like I am hating on Leupold. I've sent back 4 scopes for a variety of changes and repair and they have been 100% on getting it right the first time. I think they are an amazing company.

I'm hoping we've seen the last of the nasty weather down here! We got out and shot a practice match today. Was windy and cold but it felt good to get out and bang some steel. I'll see you soon at CBC 2014!

Now THAT would be funny. You send in both scopes and they come back both at the lesser power lol....

How so? He has two of these scopes and one of them appears to be half the power of the other one. If this one is 30x then his other must be 60x.

Unless you have another explanation.
