Silhouette Rifles

I shot rimfire Silhouette 15 + years ago. I have been shooting USPSA Pistol in Open Division and 3 Gun but due to severe knee and leg problems I cannot run enough to be competitive any longer. I am interested in shooting RF Silhouette again but do not own any siutable rifles or scopes anymore. Previously shot an Anschutz MS Repeater. Where can I find a dealer with a good selection of rifles and accessories . What are considered the "hot" setups now.

I waited and found a used 54 MSR for standard and use either a 1427 action that Evelio rebarreled and totally reworked or a 1712 done by Mark Pharr at Tumbleweed Custom Rifles for my Hunter Rifle.

IMO...Either of these riflesmiths will do you a superb job....I am sure there are others that are familiar with what it takes to build a top line silhouette rifle.

I have bought my last 3 new rifles/actions through Champions Choice....

The easiest way to get a top-notch silhouette rifle is to buy an Anschutz 1712, put a Leupold/Weaver/Bushnell/Sightron on it and roll with that for both classes.

Then there are those of use who shoot CZ rifles...the Annie guys won't talk about us - they hate to lose to a CZ. They just hate it over, and over, and over when they lose to us. But we do use the same scopes.

That's why I said the easiest way to get a TOP-NOTCH silhouette rifle is to get a 1712. There is nothing wrong with a CZ and I recommend them all the time but for a guy that used to shoot an Anschutz, he's probably looking for another rifle in that class.

BTW, around here no one cares which type of rifle wins the match. This game is not about the equipment.

I've yet to meet a person that gives a darn what kind of rifle they got beat by in silhouette. I have however met people that make a big deal out of winning with a "lesser" rifle.

Thanks for the replies. I shot custom built STI Open pistols and appreciate the work that goes into the guns. I also own Perazzi, Krieghoff and Kolar high grade shotguns so it is not an ego thing it is the workmanship and quality of the finished product. I really liked my Anschutz rifles and regret selling them. Are there any gun shops that are go to when looking for a used Anschutz 54 MS repeater? I don't mind having to rebarrel , restock etc to end up with a quality rifle. Thanks again.

Thinking about it the 1712 is a good starting point. I can have it tricked out by one of the gunsmiths mentioned and shoot it in both classes until I can find an Anschutz MS repeater. Thank you all for your input it is greatly appreciated.

Well looks like you have knowlege on building and like quilty so I'd be thinking custom build 40X built to your liking

Tricked out is fun but will take time and won't shoot any better than out of the box Anschutz 1712. Better to shoot than wait for gunsmith work.

I am going to read over the equipment rules again. I have just about made up my mind to purchase a 1712 and start shooting. Will look for a donor gun for custom build in the future. You can never own to many guns.
