1712 Trigger won't adjust

So I checked my trigger weight last night and decided to lighten it a little bit, its currently just a tad over 3 pounds and I would like 2.5. I have a 2 stage trigger and according to the manual the only obvious adjustment screw (right in front of the trigger) should set the weight. I noted where it was (took a picture) then tried turning it a half turn at a time to the left (screwing it out). I got it so far out that it was wiggling in its socket ready to fall out. The trigger weight never changed. So I figured I had read the manual wrong and screwed it back in to its original position, then started screwing it in half turn at a time. Nothing. So I just put it back to the original setting.

Is that the right screw to lighten the overall trigger weight?
How far should I have to move it to see a noticeable change in trigger weight?
I should be screwing it out (anti-clockwise) right?

That's the correct screw. I usually installed a lighter weight spring or cut 1/2 a coil off to get the weight down to 2lbs or less.

Thanks for the info. If 3 pounds is as light as it gets without changing springs then thats what I'm going to shoot it at for a while. Its brand new and I don't want to go cutting pieces off until I'm sure its all broken in and nothings going to loosen up or anything. I might try messing with it again tonight, maybe something stuck when the screw was loosened or something. Little annoying when the specs say it should be able to get to 2 pounds with that trigger.

Understand and know the feeling. I usually got a little over 2.5 pounds backing it all the way out. You won't hurt anything by taking the spring all the way out to see what it does, I think it was about 2.2 lbs without a spring. Lots of guys use ball point pen springs for a light trigger in them.

Options for different springs, call Neal Stepp at I.S.S 817-595-2090 and Neal also tunes Anschutz triggers very well.

You may also adjust the screw on the side of the trigger shoe itself, this one is real sensitive, go 1/4 turn at the time. Do what Bob said, take the front screw out, but live the spring in, until you can get a lighter one, you can find them at any Ace hardware store.

Ok, thanks guys I will back it out tonight and see where that gets me. Then tweak with the side screw if needed.

I had the same issue with my 1712. No matter what I tried I could not get it to adjust correctly. I ended up sendind the barreled action back to where I bought it. There gunsmith adjusted it down to just above two pounds. For the most part it functions fine. However, every now and then it will pull through like a hair trigger single stage trigger. Does any one know if Neal can adjust the trigger by itself, or would I have to send the whole rifle?
